whats the alternative to placing refugees in available buildings?
Put them in tents in the middle of nowhere.
5 posts up you just said ennistymon has been over ran
A bit of thought . For a start maybe not Lob them all in together … and just don’t leave them to rot .
Aren’t you the spanner that was on about how great English cities were for going drinking there recently?
Thank God I live on the mainland, the Oirish are destroying their country with uncapped immigration
More proof , if needed, we’re losing our best and brightest …
Lots of our immigrants get capped. Sure didn’t Bundee Aki score a try for Ireland last night?
The usual suspects want to send Yeva and her granny home to the bombs and the missiles.
Where’s your Catholic compassion for your fellow man?
This isn’t entirely true though. I think East Wall is an emergency reaction but the country was heading for a reckoning. The most expensive hotel built in the State was from day one last January (pre Ukraine) taken by the Government to house young male refugees. The IT noted it in March but it actually happened from the day it opened.
There’s another brand new 10 floor Premier Inn around the corner that I’d expect the State will also look to take (PI may not want that, who knows).
The Townsend Street area is full of long standing Dublin Corporation housing.
Communities aren’t thick and will take note. We can’t pretend otherwise, this playbook has been seen across Europe with the rise of the far right.
Unfortunately the debate on Direct Provision here ignored the problem of a system that just takes too long to process applications.
What’s your limit for the amount of asylum seekers Ireland should take?
Worrying enough 40% to 50% of the “men” fleeing war are arriving with no documentation. So we essentially have no idea who we are taking on board. Insanity.
Odd you don’t see them being rushed to emergency accomodation in Dalkey or Killiney.
It’s crazy the amount coming in at the moment. Vast majority already have asylum elsewhere in Europe
The EUs system of dealing with asylum is broken a long time, no sign of reform coming. We skated by on it by being far away and an island for years.
Should someone who already has asylum in an EU country be granted it elsewhere?
Possibly, yeah. The EU rules as they stand are silly.
Why? By that logic we may as well give asylum to French people
That doesn’t make any sense, french people already have a right to come and work and live here or draw the dole or what have you.
