Was hard to see poor aul David Hickey in such a way. That man should write a book. THE most interesting character EVER in the gaa/Ireland IMHO. But the documentary was done right, every person who was close to the man got to have their say. Tg4 just do documentaries properly.
That was an incredible doc, guaranteed it was done on a tiny fraction them dopes in Montrose would spend.
I listened to the Irish examiner podcast which marked Paidi OâSeâs 10 year anniversary, it was startling how close the Dubs were and continued to be until the present day. The Kerry lads were far more territorial with the South, the North and the Killarney lads all part of different cliques.
Paidi basically only had one proper friend on the panel.
David Hickey looked in poor health. He seemed very knowledgeable even when talking about the current team.
Mullins was still flying it at the time of filming.
The Porter laureate Roy Curtis spoke eloquently. He scrubbed up well compared to other pictures of him with porter dribling down his shirt.
Hickey was part of Gilroys and Gavins backroom teams so close to a lot of players and what went on. One of the greatest men Ireland has produced - he physically looks and sounds very bad but the mind is still sharp as a knife.
He predicted the 5 in a row with absolute certainty and Mayo not winning an All Ireland. Arrogance perhaps but he was never one to button his lip in what he believed, whether it be social or sporting.
Is he still working as a transplant surgeon? Last time I heard he was still at it was in an interview last year in the star. He canât eat physical food, can only suck down chocolate/vanilla/strawberry protein packs.
