Hi Ryan, will you hand back 350k?
Are you mental?
Ok…
It’ll be the other way around based on what was said at PAC this week
Im not sure what point you’re making here mate? That shit link to a rugby slush fund ad doesnt work.
It seems you’d like a ‘public service broadcaster’ to not show the most popular sport in the country because the advertising revenue might not be high enough? Is that it?
25 years too late. They’d have pocketed €100m+ back then.
It’s a pretty obvious point.
They are both a public service and commercial broadcaster, which in itself is a problem.
But in regard to this it is pretty obvious why they would host commercial events for the Rugby World Cup and Champions League. You spend money to make money.
Do you think Virgin Media are making a charitable donation this year with a similar thing, all of which will entail sponsorship freebies?
https://mediasales.rte.ie/opportunities/rugby-world-cup-2023-sponsorship/
Also, not showing it?
The LoI unfortunately does not make a bean, therefore it has to come from PSB budgets.
Events like the Six Nations and Rugby World Cup are largely commercial events, hence why Virgin are all over them.
Is it? What are the sponsorship and advertising for womens rugby which is shown regularly?
You seem to think you have some sort of ‘gotcha’ about football. You don’t. You’ve the unchecked privilege of a bunch of rugby fans pushing their personal preferences on a nation. #TeamOfJustUs
So you’re not dealing with the issue? Why not compare to 2019 when precisely zero provincial Rugby was on RTÉ in that season and there were TWO AIL games.
The issue here is trying to connect dumping part of the LOI Ireland rights to pure commercial arrangements on big ticket events. They aren’t connected.
Do you have anything else for me?
‘You spend money to make money’ is your defence of rte rugby junkets? What money are they making on the under 20s or womens rugby?
They pocket millions in advertising and sponsorship. As a contra you host the client.
This is standard stuff.
Are you a bit dim?
Look mate. I’m pretty sure you think you are some sort of debating genius. You seem to be arguing that a big advertising revenue justifies the spending? Is that right? In which case you should be looking at ridiculous amounts of money spent on junkets to the gaa id imagine. (Apologies @Little_Lord_Fauntleroy ) Rugby is a niche sport. People follow when its going well and fuck off when its not. There is absolutely zero logical reason to spend way more money on junkets to a less viewed sport…unless its because of the personal preference of the people signing the cheques…
You aren’t making a coherent point here other than the low hanging fruit likes slagging rugby. Anything original in your locker?
It’s not like I’ve commented on the Champions League final tickets, which I couldn’t give less of a fuck about. I get it’s a commercial thing and they wine and dine clients. No mention of it from you, is it because you’re a middle aged Irishman still behaving like you’re 10 supporting an English association football team?
If you want to make a coherent point- then maybe mention the blurred lines between PSB and commercial broadcast. But “debating” whether 7 figure commercial deals that cost low six figures to deliver vs. a clear PSB event like the LOI is thick.
Ironically enough, RTÉ exiting the commercial sphere will probably mean we end up with less LOI on tv.
