Bringing people who are spending huge money yearly to rugby, champions league or a golf outing is part of business. This should be a cost to the business and transparent. Using it as a fund to bring partners around the world for various sporting events is the issue.
If a show is bringing in millions in revenue through advertising and the host threatens to leave then it should be weighed up whether its the host or programme that drives the revenue. Would Joe Duffy have such success on Newstalk or would Liveline survive. Id say the latter.
There can’t be anything to stop Joe Duffy taking a live call in show to another station where it would certainly beat the local Celine with a new host,

Where is the outrage over taxpayers money used to pay TD expenses including travel allowance when they were working remotely during covid? Not defending RTÉ in slightest but the grandstanders in the PAC and media have hollow words as far as I’m concerned.
I obviously exclude those who gave it back as I know many did

That hasn’t really been bourne out in the past. Pat Kenny was supposed to bring his audience with him that time, and while he did bring some, his Newstalk show is miles off his RTE ratings. There’s 300k houses in Ireland where the dial never leaves Radio 1.
