Got the low down on the toy show musical debacle tonight from someone in the know. Utter shit show from RTE. They lack the production expertise for a musical so brought in a consultant who advised them on it. They parted company when they refused to take his advice on timelines and the amount of work needed. They had the convention centre booked and were putting a show on no matter what. Rte skimped on manpower, skimped on expertise. The set is quite high tech with revolving sets and the like but that stuff is quite dangerous and there ended up being untrained people doing too much stuff and it became dangerous. The safety concerns of the crew were one of the main reasons for it being cancelled. They also had too few understudies which came to a head, one of the leads went down with laryngitis then her understudy got covid. They presumed it would sell itself based on the toyshow but as tfk knows well, the panto is a big tradition for many and traditions are hard broken at christmas. The crowds were 4-500 as opposed to the 2500 it holds. Financially thats a disaster. He reckons it will be losses of millions.
He also reckons the gaiety have been pressurising politically in order to try to fuck them to make sure they dont try it again.

Another beauty. They went through 4 writers. The first one refused to have her name taken off it after she was … mutually consented… so the subsequent writers were paid MORE because their rewrites wouldn’t be credited. Genius from the RTE.

I hope this 4 writers thing comes out at the PAC. It will make for brilliant watching. The politician’s eyes will light up.
