Why are they still showing reruns of Killinaskully from 2004? A strong indictment of how little effort RTÉ have made to produce any kind of “comedy” in recent times. Fair City is their best comedy these days.
Because that’s about the most horrific show known to man.
TV3 is basically ITV, which is among the most low brow major television stations in the world.
No one else other than RTE has ever really given it a proper go in Ireland.
At least RTE gave up on the Breakfast TV market🤮
In fairness Ireland AM during the week isn’t bad, poor at the weekend.
Yeah exactly. But name an original TV3/Virgin show with resonance? That sports highlights with Trevor Welch and Vincent Browne (originally on RTÉ radio)?
My memory of it is from when I was in school twenty years ago in fairness. Alan Hughes and a lad wine tasting at 7:52 of a Monday morning.
Ireland AM is probably the best example.
When I think of TV3, I think Tabloid culture and social decay
They generally bring in whomever is getting some buzz.
Hardy Bucks for a while.
That morphed into all of the Republic of Telly folks.
More recently- Killian Sundermann, Tony Cantwell etc
Reality is Ireland is small. How many people have they really ignored in the last couple of decades?
A lot of vested interests in this.
Journalists stirring it all up, some with clear gripes against RTE and/or Tubridy.
Virgin media wanting to stick the knife into RTE.
RTE not wanting to be seen to be ignoring it.
Politicians getting involved.
Known RTE faces finally getting a chance to stick the knife in.
That and a complete shit show in terms of financial management of a high profile company being funded by the TV licence and public purse.
Virgin Media lads will never see the promised land now with the capping thats on the way
It’s the only example.
Don’t look back in anger?
That’s a grand show
It’s the same way everyone hates Gaelic football when in reality it gets big crowds/ratings and huge numbers play it. There is definitely a massive inferiority complex at play in Ireland that huge amounts of people instinctively hate anything distinctively Irish. Or almost feel embarrassed about liking it. It probably has its upside in that we don’t get the MAGA Brexit type cohort in any great numbers because of it.
Add kids tv when kids tv was a thing to that. The den, anything goes etc. Podge and Rodge was loved too. The only thing they have been absolutely brutal at is sitcoms.
That was one of the best things RTE did.
Is the Marty Party over?
Padjo’s Jukebox says go fuck yourself
In your dreams
Marty Morrissey is grand in fairness.
He did nothing wrong in the greater scheme of things.
Tubridys 345k on the other hand is a different question.
