Mostly due to Kidney thinking he could get some performances out of both of them by alternating. Not actually coaching the teams and ultimately unfair to both players at the time.

You get a proper class of well turned out supporter at a rugby match.
You’d hope he’s learnt from relying on over the hill players in key positions next time out though.
