The advanced gardening thread

Thanks. They’re becoming more popular now. Even fashionable. You’d see them in Woodies and Aldi now. Generally get them out of the peat into a well drained compost. Plenty of light and a cool dry winter rest.

Ive a tiny back garden , not much room as I’ve fruit trees etc, would it be worthwhile building a small one as in would I be able to grow enough tomatoes in a space metre xmetre my wall is 7 four high- live tomatoes

If your wall is facing south, then you shouldn’t have a problem. You’d want to be getting them going now though.

I’m going to go out now to pollinate those flowers.
I’ll post up the resulting flowering offspring in twenty years time. It’s mad Ted!

Thank you appreciate the answer, shagging co op is closed

Tomatos are cheap in Tesco €1 will get you six fresh ones . You’ve lads breaking their backs growing shrubbery covered in rat piss and every magpie has had its pick , same lads happy to serve it up on a dinner plate to their family.

Can’t beat the flavor of a homegrown tomato, like a home grown spud.

@Corksfinedtboy, 7 ft high is fine, you need to stake them or build a cage around them to keep them from sprawling.

Thanks boy, hoping the co op will open now to start

Not about the price but the satisfaction, my mother had evertthing in our garden when we were young, the whole backgarden in uam var was spacious enough for the spuds , rhubarb, blackcurrant, gooseberry, lettuces etc

They mightn’t always be so cheap.

What size of a rhubarb patch did you need to yield that amount?

Originally one plant that has now grown to 1m square

My front garden lawn is destroyed with weeds. Some grass there but mainly weeds. It looks ok when it’s mowed but utterly horrific when a bit of growth comes back.

Any suggestions on how to get rid of the bastards? Dig them up - they will most likely come back. Use weed killer but you’re likely to damage the whole thing. Reseed?

Move ?

:roll_eyes::thinking:

Start pissing around your garden . The ammonia will kill them off .if you can start bringing the family out one by one and give them a spot each, it would speed up the process .

Is that front garden facing north?

Yes. Back garden facing south isn’t much better.

Its fucked so
