The All Ireland Senior Football Championship 2012

The GAA insists that video evidence was not used to clarify Eoghan Oā€™Garaā€™s point on Sunday.

There was a real moment of controversy in the 53rd minute of the Leinster final when the referee and his umpires wrongly disallowed Oā€™Garaā€™s point before the incident was replayed on the big screen, showing the 70,000-odd people in Croker that it was in fact a point.

After the big-screen replay, linesman Maurice Deegan called referee Marty Duffyā€™s attention to the fact that it had been a legitimate score. It was then awarded but rules regarding the use of video technology during a game seemed to have been broken.

However, Croke Park insists that the screening of the incident was a coincidence and that this footage was not used to clear up the uncertainty:

"Maurice Deegan brought it to the refereeā€™s attention that he was convinced it was a point. It had nothing to do with the big screen.

ā€œMaurice had a very good view from where he was standing and felt straight away that it was a point,ā€ claims GAA communications manager Alan Milton.[/quote]
Superb line work from Maurice

Far worse.

Breheny had the rule relating to this in the indo today and itā€™s not clear that the lino can tell the ref about scores. Clearly he should be able to and itā€™s ridiculous that he hasnā€™t been able to.

In a boring anecdote, Wexford drew with Kilkenny in a Leinster minor final a while back, a long while back in fact. Anyway, deep into the second half Wexford had a ball waved wide despite it being over the bar. The lino acknowledged this but said he wasnā€™t allowed to tell the ref.

Iā€™m not sure that this rule has been changed but am open to clarification. If anyone gives a fuck.

Iā€™d say Deegan saw it was a point but was prompted to act by the big screen.

You are very wrong, your letting your memory of his poor shooting of 2 years ago cloud your memory. He is a very good kicker passer. Heā€™s not Bryan Sheehan or Ja Fallon, but heā€™s good.

From play Ciaran Sheehan deserved MOTM that day, but Goulding kicking 3 45ā€™s had to be considered strongly, open to correction but I donā€™t think anyone would have done that before.

Horse, 50 on a direct meeting if it happens and 50 on Kerry not reaching the final.

Kev 50 is fine on a direct meeting. I can get better odds on us reaching the final at the bookies! Speaking of which Cork are favourites Kerry and Dublin are joint second favourites and Dongeal are fourth in line. Interesting.

Clare really coming in under the radar here.

Agreed, with Limerickā€™s form since the Clare game, it shows Clare are no bad side.

On the back of that victory over limerick - ignoring the blip versus cork we are one of the form teams in the country along with Donegal and Tipperary.

I donā€™t recall that Wexford incident, but I have memories of other umpires being called into give opinions on scores in the past and their opinion being regarded by the referee and listened to. Right now however, I honesty cant recall one such major incident as luck would have it.

What do you mean ā€œother umpiresā€?
The ones from the far end of the field? Or undercover umpires in the crowd?

Maybe the other umpires are undercover big screens. Anyway the umpire on sunday was a fucking eejit, how he couldnā€™t tell that was a point is beyond me, and I wouldnā€™t mind but he has moved into a position behind the goal to be able to tell it was a piont. Basically the umpire shit himself when the Meath players in desperation were screaming it was wide. He should of told them to fuck off and stuck up the white flag.

The umpire role is not an easy one and it needs complete concentration. Iā€™m sure some of our posters are stalwart umpires but Iā€™ve only done it on a few occasions many years ago as a favour when I had nothing better to be doing than hanging around Wexford Park. I was totally daydreaming one time during some underage match when I was startled by players on both sides appealing. Clonard were the defending team so my default position was to give a '65. One of their adult selector types went fucking apeshit at me - I was around 16 or 17 at the time and really should have been drinking in the industrial estate or at the back of the factories. Getting back to the point, I donā€™t blame the umpire for fucking it up on Sunday.

Sorry, meant linesmen

Its hard to enjoy all the aspects of the game and pay attention to ones job at the same time.

In fairness to the umpire he saw it and was reaching for the flag but Duffy over ruled him.

First time Iā€™ve heard anyone say that about Goochā€¦anyone I know who have met him say he is an absolute gent

Brian McGuigan has launched a scathing verbal attack on Kerry duo Colm Cooper and Declan Oā€™Sullivan.

Writing his column in Gaelic Life this weekend, the legendary Tyrone playmaker is still seething after his red card for barging into ā€œarrogantā€ Oā€™Sullivan in Killarney on Saturday evening:

ā€œThe one thing that is going to stick with me is the sight of Declan Oā€™Sullivan smiling and sniggering when he got me sent off,ā€ he writes.

"I suppose it was a bit like when Cristiano Ronaldo had the wink when he got Wayne Rooney sent off at the World Cup. That image will never leave me.

"People might turn around and say I got Gregory McCartan sent off in an Ulster final, but as Iā€™ve said before, I never wanted to get him sent off. I regretted that he was. Declan Oā€™Sullivan, however ā€¦ I felt was more than happy to have got me the line.

"Two boys I have found who always had an opinion about themselves were Declan Oā€™Sullivan and Colm Cooper. They always gave the impression they looked down on you.

"When we were on trips away with the All Stars, I got on like a house on fire with TomĆ”s Ɠ SĆ©, for example. But not those two boys. Thatā€™s not sour grapes, because theyā€™re class players. But thereā€™s a way to go about things.

ā€œI think Oā€™Sullivan and Gooch are from the same frame of mind as Pat Spillane, where they could never seem to accept that Tyrone could beat themā€¦ they didnā€™t like it when we came along and beat them not once but three times.ā€

Disappointing to see such sour grapes from McGuigan, Iā€™d have a lot of time for him and a lot of the Tyrone boys. Very out of character from him. Suppose he regrets coming back and is lashing out.
