The Anti Rugby Football Thread Pt 2

Maybe the lads in the IRFU could sue Neil Francis for making them slam their heads off their desks this morning.

Is he really a full time journalist?

I was expecting him to be high up in the bank or something.

Remember the time Francis bragged about sitting in the Irish dressing room looking at lads in the dressing rooms knowing they wouldnā€™t cut the mustard before going out to play France in Paris.

Iā€™d say Franno would have a lot of stories to tell about the hi-jinks they got up to in those days.

Reports that Brian O Driscoll is a major part of the class action lawsuit.

Yes Iā€™d imagine there was lots of faeces under fingernails etc.

He is in finance and is absolutely loaded Iā€™d say. Has own leasing business now I think

Heā€™s an awful man. But fellas on here treating him like the oracle for a decade

Be the hokey. Never shrieks a tackle and smaller than most rugby players. Iā€™d say he got a shitload of concussions

@gilgamboa would you have ever suffered many concussions playing rugby? Would the average club player be affected at all? Assume that professionalism was a rising tide which led to more training/contact at amateur level as well?

I did the asbestos job in Boston. Paid a fortune and got me out of a financial hole. Didnā€™t kill me.

Thatā€™s the problem with say academy lads going back playing club rugby. They are basically semi pros. Not really fair and fairly dangerous.

A horrible creep

A few. And one playing soccer. Not nice

I have coached underage sides for years and you would rarely, if ever see a concussion. Refs are militant about it if any bang in head as they are personally liable for any issues if a player isnā€™t properly looked after.

At adult club level you would see a few. But nothing like the amount in pro games. Almost all are down to poor tackle technique IMO. Despite all the training the pros do the amount of time they spend on tackle technique is minimal

If you tackle properly you wont get a concussion in the tackle. No matter how big a size differential there is. Thatā€™s just a fact. Now you would see the odd situation where a fella trys to make a proper tackle and gets unlucky but they are rare.

I saw a leinster player getting concussed a few weeks back by putting his head to the far side of a players knees i.e. Exposed his whole head and neck to a knee. If you saw a 12 year old doing that you would send them home tbh for their own safety

This is a massive issue across a lot of sports. Do ye get your minors to sign a concussion waiver at the start of the season? You can be sure the pro rugby players have signed one in some guise or otherā€¦ Thatā€™s where this is goingā€¦ No sports without a waiverā€¦ And no refs once this starts to creep down to amateur levelā€¦ Across All contact sports

I donā€™t think actual concussions are the issue. Isnā€™t it the mini concussions that occur in impact.

ā€œno issue in rugby & even if there is, its an issue across all sportsā€

Iā€™d be far from an expert in the minutate of it. Personally Iā€™m not sure anyone really knows yet

Well why were you stating with certainty what it is or isnā€™t two posts up then?
Rugby is a confrontational sport. Unlike hurling or football, where confrontation is a by product and the entire thrust of the game is to find space and avoid it, in rugby it has become over the past twenty years the ethos of the game. Run straight at your opponent and try and batter across the gain line. Itā€™s proponents were lauding ā€œfronting upā€ and ā€œmassive physicalityā€ and the like. Itā€™s become dreadful to watch also.
