Your failure to deal with my points speaks volumes

How many “marquee” players have changed leagues at the height of their powers? Few enough I’d say.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the only one I can think of over the last few years.
Kaka when he went to Real. Zlatan a number of times. Falcao.

It was a huge step up in class for Kaka from the Italian league where the standard had slipped so badly around the time he went to Real. It could also be argued that Zlatan is not world class and is just a flat track bully having failed to perform so many times at CL and international level. If we are including Zlatan in this list, then we can start including a hell of a lot players in the list of players who went to the EPL.

He was the key player in an AC Milan side who were the best/most consistent side in the Champions League during the mid part of the last decade and one of the best players in the world during his time at AC Milan.

I agree-he was class and I’ve always felt sorry for him being almost forced to go to those cunts at Madrid but as far as I remember, outside of Milan, the Italian league was at a low ebb at the time resulting in their UEFA coefficient dropping as low as it did.

But that has nothing to do with the fact that Kaka was a de facto world class player who swapped leagues at the height of his powers. Which is what you are arguing to the contrary above in

Well I wasn’t really arguing that, more commenting on it although I didn’t word it correctly I’ll give you.

Neymar is another example.

Victor Wanyama from Celtic to Southampton is another.

Robbie Keane.

From Tottenham to LA Galaxy.

I see Papiss Cisse has pulled out of Newcastle’s pre-season tour because he doesn’t want to wear the Wonga shirt sponsor. Considering Virgin Money (having bought out Northern Rock) were their sponsors up to this, he must have found a passage of the Qur’an which says that charging interest is okay as long as the interest rate isn’t too high. Tiote and Sissoko seem to be okay with it.

He seems pretty adamant that he’s not wearing it. A tricky one for Newcastle. One for the diplomatic qualities of Joe Kinnear.

Indeed.

Tricky one I’d suppose. My initial reaction was that the longer this drags on, the more damaging it is for Wonga so they could try to rescue a bit of decent PR and say that players could wear a blank shirt on religious grounds. That could look like an acceptance that their business is unethical I’d suppose, as well as the obvious fact that they would want the club’s main striker wearing their logo for the money they are paying. South Africa’s cricket team are sponsored by Castle Lager, and Hashim Amla (a Muslim) doesn’t wear the logo. Not sure what the exact background is as to how that decision came about.

Is it not just a mechanism for Cisse to get away from Newcastle without having to hand in a transfer request?

That’s also a possibility, but even by the standards of modern professional sport, that would be fairly cynical.

Sholy Ambebobopa can expect a knock on his door tomorrow from Joe wanting to know what the fack he is playing at and to put on the facking jersey.

True enough. These payday loans companies have caused massive outroar in the UK. I think it was Bolton who announced one of them as a club sponsor only to renege after numerous protests from fans and supporters clubs. I read the other day that the queen is about to propose something to crack down on their unethical practices or something to that extent.

Oh it’s a scumbag industry, no doubt about that. I couldn’t pass myself off as an expert on Islam (though fuck it, I could probably try on here), but I do find it funny that he was happy enough to wear the logo of a different type of money lending institution for the last 18 months.

Yep, never thought of that until you pointed it out. Although Virgin money are slightly more reputable I guess.

Moyes is a dinosaur. He spoke in interviews the other day about “overtraining” van Persie to get him up to speed as he joined the squad later than other players. But he picked up a thigh strain in the friendly game today. This surely contradicts sport science best practice. Any thoughts Mark Renton caoimhaoin Faldo ?
