The Battle for Liam 09

Wasnā€™t there, not in the country at the moment but was speaking to a couple of attendees alright. I was at the league game down in Pairc Ui Chaoimh and was impressed enough with Cork then given they were only back.

Turenne posted Cork team on Cork thread:
Cusack
Shane Murphy - Cadogan - Conor Sull
Ray Ryan - McGann - Jordan
Jerry - Cronin
Paudie - Niall Mc - Timmy Mc
Tadhg Og - Fraggy - Hoggie

Limerick had most of the usual suspects, missing Reale, Lucey, Hickey. Ollie Moran and Mark Foley started, wing forward and wing back. James Ryan was tried out at wing back aswell I think.

The Cork team was poor, put it up in the Cork GAA thread.

Cork is in transition, and although the training sessions are supposed to be going well, we have produced the square root of fuck all underage over the past half decade, we have a mediocre Under-21 team, have lost Brian Murphy, Deane and Diarmuid (and probably a couple more by the end of the year), have no physicality and only have one top class inter-county forward who will be one of the next to retire.

Or, we are fucked.

Maybe half that team will start championship, at most.

What is the extent of Hickeyā€™s injury?? Will he miss alot / all of the championship?

If heā€™s gone then we may as well forget about it.

Hickey and Fitz are out for the season I believe?

Shame, Hickey is one of my favourite players.

I heard that aswell (missing chamionship), but I also heard it was only a broken finger. I think injuries get blown out of proportion a bit at this time of year. Your right though, forget about if heā€™s out but I expect him to be fit.

Turenne, youā€™ve nearly convinced me to stick a few quid on Cork at 2/1. Will wait to see the handicap betting.

Young Foyle FF is a beast of a hurler. Like Iā€™ve said here before there is huge work going on at underage level in Laois. This team didnt even come through Pats Cuchulainn program. I realise some felas like kev wouldnt care about underage program like Critchley is doing, but the work must start somewhere and we in Laois believe this program is the future.

Time will tell, one things for sure, it will get worse at senior before it will get better. I dont think weā€™ll stay up in the Liam this year.

I heard he did in his hamstring again, not sure tbh.

Get over yourself, results speak volumnes, iā€™ll be happier than anyone when ye get some results. So stop the shit talking now. I slagged you, you couldnā€™t take it, lets move on.

Think thereā€™e crossed wires here. Mike Fitz is the one who is carrying all the weight. Conor Fitz is the one who has done his hamstring. Seriously hope Hickey is not out for long, vital player for Limerick this year.

Very worrying for Limerick to have lost so badly, conceded 1-20 in second half having led at half time.

Of course kev, of course. Snobbery of the top table in hurling at times is sad to see. Toss us a few crumbs when you get a chance.

Whats the story with Brian Murphy? Thought he was in his mid 20ā€™s? Did he have a falling out with rebel leaders or something?

How have the minors done the last few years?

I donā€™t believe we are at the top table at the moment. I called ye cak, which at Senior level ye are, but so are Cork. I take a huge interest in development and sociology of sport mbb, and in particular GAA development. Iā€™m personally involved in trying ressurect hurling in my own club which has been neglected badly. I donā€™t see us being competitive at adult level for 10-12 years, so donā€™t think i donā€™t either know or appreciate what the lads in Laois are doing. Or in Kildare, Westmeath and many of the Ulster counties. Iā€™ve met alot of these people through courses and seminars. Top notch people, with great ideas. Many of whom i believe are far better coaches than alot of the people looking after various IC teams. The best coaches in Cork donā€™t get let near the Minor hurling and football teams. For instance Mick Slocum (great footballer and all butā€¦) trained the Barrs U-16 team for 2 years, done one foundation course and is all of a sudden good enough to train the Cork Minors. Whay da fook???
Anyway iā€™m rambling a bit there, but you get my drift.

Iā€™m delighted for Laois with the Minor, my Dublin connections were only just saying recently that this was a serious team, but they did mention Laois were to be rated as well. Laois has the capabilites to be as successful as Offaly, coming in burst with good crops of players, but obviously with the size of the county staying competitive all the time against the bigger counties will be hard.

Serious problems with migranes, canā€™t take them anymore, had to take a year off. Most people say heā€™ll be back next year.
Huge loss.
We need him for a bit of timbering.

That Cork team wouldnā€™t win the Killkenny senior hurling championship, FACT.
CusackHas to go, the pandering to him has to stop
Shane MurphyNot even related to IC standard - CadoganIn shocking form, may be burnt out, but at last had a good game with Douglas Friday night - Conor SullSerious operator, should make it
Ray RyanNot good enough - McGannNot good enough - JordanVery good, but needs to bulk up for IC first
JerryClass - CroninRonan Conway from his own club is better, heā€™s simply not good enough
PaudieMost overrated hurler in Cork, half back or nowhere - Niall Mc Like Niall, but is he the future- Timmy McSame as Niall
Tadhg OgVery good club and Fitz player, doubt heā€™s up to IC - Fraggy Not that good, his club donā€™t think heā€™s an inside forward and he rarely plays there at all, wonā€™t do- HoggieToo much expected of him, heā€™d be a good IC player on a good team, but he wonā€™t carry a team

Overall very worrying. I know there are some serious players to come back, but we could be embarrassed in Thurles. Tipp are young and hungry, if they build a lead they wonā€™t stop.

Whatever about Conor Fitz and his hamstring, i can confirm that Mike Fitz has indeed done his hamstring. How bad the extent of the injury remains to be seen.

Are those migranes from listening to Donal Og behind him?:guns:

Evidently he is just sick of everything, taking a break for a while Iā€™d imagine. Iā€™d guess he is a quiet lad who just wants to hurl without all the drama.

We will see him back, but he is the biggest loss of all.
