Soul rather than blues I think.
I never thought much about the difference.
So from this, Iām getting the sense that soul is more about the voice and the delivery of the vocals, and blues is more about the notes and the delivery of the tune? Blues music needs to have some kind of pattern/rhythm and places more importance on the instruments, whereas soul is more ālooseā and āfreeā like gospel music? Both are āemotion-basedā, but soul can be positive and uplifting at times, while blues is mostly āsadā and sticks to the minor notes?
It seems so obvious now I think about it, and its usually easy to tell whether something is soul or blues when you hear it on the radio, but I just needed a way for it to be described to me in writing. Iām also realizing that a lot of artists, such as the late Etta James, sang both soul and blues and thereās not really a fine line between them.
