At this stage I’d fancy a five length victory for Oxford.
Cambridge holding them against the bend. I repeat, they are holding them.
Incredible resilience from the Light blues. Almost level, Cambridge with the last bend.
This reminds me so much of the 2008 Trinity-UCD colours race. Manuel must be jumping out of his skin.
Cambridge up by half a length at John Barnes bridge. Oxford will have to pull off a repeat of 2002 when they came round the outside.
This would be a famous Light blue victory. Bollocks to the wall time now.
What a victory for Cambridge. MacEachern’s mantra victorious. “Yes they can”
Gutted by that. No hiding place for me now.
Exhilarating stuff. Fred Gill the Cambridge stroke kept the rate up throughout the whole race and can take so much credit. They looked beaten after the first bend but sheer courage saw them through. Hard luck Martin Walsh, thre’s always next year. Henry Pelly, last year’s losing president and brother of Joe O’Reilly’s lover Nicki Pelly, is ecstatic and rightly so. That was seventeen minutes of murder. Hopefully Oxford won’t stick the knife into any of their squad, there should be no recriminations, somebody has to lose.
Gill’s role shows the importance of the stroke seat, or the “Michael Fahy” seat as they call it at NUIG. This has definitely whetted my appetite for the Irish rowing season and the upcoming regattas down by the Liffey.
Peep Show’s David Mitchell on hand to give expert analysis on BBC.
MacEachern lifts the trophy. “It’s for the people”, says the follower of Karl Marx. Ted Randolph the cox now getting tossed into the Thames.
Are you a NUIGRC oarsman, Sid? One of the most noble institutions in my Alma Mater.
No but I did do a bit of rowing against them. Not very successfully I may add.
Fantastic against the odds win. I really should have had more faith. That’ll keep Oxford well in their box. The Varsity Match & Boat Race double in the same academic year.
There’s nothing better than a victory when you are the underdog, and the way Cambridge fought back makes it all the sweeter for them. It should be some party for those of a Light Blue persuasion tonight. The Winklevoss brothers will be deleting their Facebook pages out of embarrassment.
did you get to see any of the isis and goldie race sid?
it was quite an occasion today for cambridge winning an elusive double
Oxford traded on BF @ 1.03 about 5 mins into the race :o
That cunt in the water should be drowned.
That said he did me a favour as I laid Oxford at 1.1 just before the incident. Will my beloved Cambridge row on victory now with the heavier crew?
What a surreal day!
