4 Australia 23/11/1996

I don’t think there was even a pretence among any of the crowd that there weren’t chasm-like cracks in the team.
It came off the back of the 5-2 defeat in Cyprus (which I did not even bother to watch) and it was known it would be the last BIG match in the old Lansdowne Road.
It had the air of 35,000 people who had been drinking the shit out of it the previous night, knew they shouldn’t be drinking again tonight, but out of anger and spite, decided to go harder again at it, and ended up having the best night of the year, and miraculously had no hangover after it all.
Stephen Staunton remains one of only two Ireland managers never to lose a competitive match at home.
When I’m very bored, one of the topics of conversation I like to wheel out is that Staunton, if two things or maybe one thing had worked out differently, might have been spared the sack and might somehow have worked out as a good manager of Ireland.
That was a memorable match to attend. The night that keeper Dudu drove the Lansdowne crowd mad.
To my shame I’m in the same bracket as you.
Attended 1 (one) Rep of Ireland international
Ireland 1 - 0 Bolivia. Best shout from the crowd that night was “when will this ever fuckin end, I want to go home and watch Charlo!!” Not everyone on here will get that reference but it drew a huge roar of laughter from the crowd.
“Chips shouldn’t bounce.”
Since I became an adult, I’ve been to 51 Limerick championship matches. Lots more as a child but hard to give an accurate number.
I’ve been to 4 Ireland matches:
A loss to Serbia (0-1)
A loss to Iceland (0-1)
A loss to Denmark (1-5)
A WIN to Gibraltar (2-0)

This was a great intro. Stuck with me from when I saw it first at the time up to when I finally saw the series again some time around 2012.
Wales in Croke Park
Utter scutter
Never again
I’ve been to 5 (five) rugby internationals. France in Croke Park, France in Stade de France, Scotland in Croke Park England In Lansdowne Road and England in the Aviva.

The last Leinster/All-Ireland senior football championship match which Dublin did not win in regulation 70 minutes and which I did not attend was the 1990 Leinster football final defeat by Meath.

I expect that record to end this year i) because of the new format, ii) because Dublin are not that good any more and iii) because I’ll probably not attend many if any matches this year.
I think I have been to twenty six (26) All Ireland senior football finals and twenty seven (27) All Ireland senior hurling finals.
Three rubby matches
Ireland v England 1987
Ireland v Australia WC 1991
New Zealand v Australia 1991
Whoah. Nz v Australia in 1991 was a notable game.
Twas yeah
Crowd was really up for it that night alright
Strange atmosphere the night Roy Keane returned to the international fold, a portion cheering, a portion indifferent a portion booing
The night Yugoslavia were beaten by a Sparky Kennedy cracker was a buzzing atmosphere.
Best final you were at?
I can’t remember most of the matches i was at
Savage going for a Waterford man
I don’t know how many hurling championship matches I was at.
