My expectation is that they will revoke the protocol. The EU won’t trigger a trade war because it’s the last thing anyone needs between allies against Russia and a looming recession. They’ll go into negotiations and come up with a tweaked protocol that looks very like the existing one in a few months. In the meantime the DUP bluff will have been called, the right wing of the Tories mollified and Boris will have bought another few months which is the aim of the game now.

There’s every chance the EU will call their bluff and level sanctions, tradr war etc. Apparently Truss’s statement yesterday went down like a lead balloon in Brussels and the EU are just fucked off with this now.
In this case, life in N Ireland becomes very difficult.
Unionists are like Fr Dougal in that Father Ted episode where he’s faced with a big red button with a sign saying “Don’t press this”. They just can’t help themselves as they (increasingly rapidly) drive their population to a Border Poll.
