@Little_Lord_Fauntleroy - how do we solve the lack of safety for parking ebikes and cargo bikes in the city centre?
In ZĆ¼rich beside one of the train stations (Altstetten) thereās a large bike shed. From memory it could be three racks high. Cycle to the train station, catch your train or tram, go to work. Simple.
Thatās on a huge flyover isnāt it? They have versions of it at some of the other stations too but not as big
Thereās one at Haarlem train station and itās multi storey, absolutely enormous, the Dutch have their heads screwed on
Thatās the one. Great station. The Swiss do public transport so well.
Itās also a ridiculously expensive country.
Generally a nation of cunts though.
Copy Utrecht
I donāt know too many Swiss, mainly Germans are who I work with there.
The main thing with a helmet is - from my understanding - protecting yourself if you fall off the bike. As someone who has taken a few hops off bikes over the years, I can attest to their value here.
As a young lad, I took a bad hop when I hit a pothole going down a hill on our cycle down to the village the day before school ended in 1993. Weād only got 2km into the 5km journey to get sweets for the end of year party. Anyway, I fractured my middle finger (which never set right) and there was blood streaming down my head. Iād to go to hospital with a severe concussion that night.
My mother insisted I got a helmet maybe a year after that, which was somewhat unusual back then and turned me off riding a bike for a while. A few years later, I took a skid going round a bend and hit the ground. Bar some road rash, I was fine. There was a crack on the helmet, but my head was fine. It did its job.
I had one bad hop as an adult which I detailed here at the time. Again, the helmet had a crack afterwards, but no head injury.
On the other hand, if a car or a truck hit me at speed, I donāt think the helmet would make much difference. I wear it more for my own clumsiness than that of others.
Thereās an hour queue on Raleigh website
God I hope they bring back the Raleigh Vektar.
950 pounds. It was 32 pounds when first came out
Iām in the queue for one in infrared.
The Raleigh Grifter was some tank.
Malmo has the same, huge underground bike parking facility.
The Chopper has now sold out. Wow.
The Chopper, although an iconic bike, was a bucket of shit to cycle. A buddy of mineās first bike was a Tomahawk, which was a smaller version of the Chopper. It fitted him but again, it was shite to cycle.
Absolute crock of shit. Heavy as a small tank, tiny wheels and a shonky Sturmey Archer three speed.
