Yeah you could argue for a lower inheritance tax rate for transfers made before death

Or a euthanasia program once people start to become a burden

Crazy SF tax policies will come home to roost if they donā€™t change them.

ā‚¬100k is the same as ā‚¬80k was pre Covid. Itā€™s becoming far more common and will also be a reasonable goal for a lot more people as well.

Whatā€™s particularly crazy about the SF policy is that it will raise fuck all new revenue and aims to make the most progressive tax system in the world even more progressive.

Itā€™s an open goal for someone politically, but the reality is there is no real centre right party in Ireland. Right wing lads in the DĆ”il seem to be only concerned about migration, 5G, rural pubs and migration.

Tend not to be right wing economically as they draw support from dole heads/the lads the lefties on here used to eulogise as the most vulnerable

And cut tax on the lower paid further.

Their idea is to make less than a billion from taxing higher earners more and pass on more tax cuts. All of this with a state budget of ā‚¬100bn.

Incentivising people to sell houses that are too big for their needs is the same as euthanasia is a stretch.

FG really need to introduce a new tax credit for mncs before Sinn Fein get in and ensure they pay an equitable amount.

It highlighted that the top 7.7 per cent of tax units (those earning more than ā‚¬100,000) accounted for 54.1 per cent of income tax and universal social charge (USC) payments in 2021

When they say tax unit, are jointly assessed couples counted as one unit e.g. 64k & 40k incomes count as over 100k

Yes

They pay 55 per cent of the income tax we collect. Would you reduce the income tax they pay by a similar amount that youā€™d raise corporation tax.

They pay 15% max. PAYE pay over 50%. Poor MNCs are being ridden though.

And the top 1% of earners paid no tax at all

Does the 2 million quid pile not end up inheritance taxed to the hilt anyway?

I doubt many couples with children earning a combined income of 100k would feel like they are in the top 7% in country.

But maybe thatā€™s just way it is with people expanding their spending to match (or exceed their income)

Iā€™ve been told we* should get married before Iā€™m made redundant in around 18-24 months so my tax credits can be used by my partner, or something along those lines. Please advise.

*me & my life partner, not me & you.

Not true. Top 1% of earners pay 23 per cent of all income tax.
Weā€™ve a very progressive income tax system.

Iā€™m sure your life partner would appreciate the cold hard financial benefits of the transaction.

ā€œHun, I believe Iā€™ve put together a strong business case for us registering our marriage. There would be a significant ROI in Y1, with further benefits in Y2 & Y3. We could insert a break clause in Y5 if desiredā€

But enough about their wedding night arf arf

I see thereā€™s a nice little increase in the rock ā€˜nā€™ roll about to be introduced whereby those who are made redundant will get nearly 500 snots a month for 6 months if theyā€™ve been in employment for the last while. Once itā€™s passed in the Dail I imagine Iā€™ll be all over it.
