The Christmas present ideas thread

Kids spend more time with their teacher than they do their own parents in some cases. They are a massive figure in a child and by extension that parents life. Especially if the kid is in anyway vulnerable or has extra needs. What harm buying them a present for 5 or 10 euro once a year. Itā€™s nice to see a teacher send out a message saying they expect nothing but some will still buy them. How the fuck is this even an issue? Itā€™s a very very strange stick to beat teachers with. Teachers didnt get presents years ago because an awful lot of them were cunts and treated kids badly. That is not the case in 95pc of cases today. Children love their teacher the vast majority of the time.
There was an awful lot about modern Xmas that didnā€™t happen years ago I think buying the likes of back in a tracksuit a tin of lynx Africa is far from the worst of it.

You wouldnā€™t be giving Brother Prunty a tin of Lynx. Heā€™d fuck it at you.

You expect families with four or five kids to find an extra 50 euro at christmas? Itā€™ll be fine for lots of kids but if you accept the fact that many come to school without breakfast then you surely can see that the their parents canā€™t afford to buy presents.
The anonymous donation idea solves the problem. Kids can give a present, those who canā€™t afford it can feel as worthy as the other kids and teachers donā€™t have to deal with the shame of accepting gifts that parents canā€™t afford.

Youā€™ll be surprised to hear that (for me anyway) itā€™s not something I give a second thought to in the week leading up, unless my thoughts are triggered by reading a thread like this.
I donā€™t want anything and I donā€™t expect anything, one year I had the foresight to send out a note saying please donā€™t give me a gift and give it to charity instead, but I got some gifts anyway. Nobody is put out, if they are then Iā€™d feel terrible about it, I love the kids, no matter how much grief they cause me, theyā€™re like my own for the year I have them,
I take exception to being accused of somehow exploiting them, I do deal with some of the most deprived children in Limerick, anybody who knows where I work would tell you that, I appreciate the gifts but I donā€™t want them, mostly I appreciate the thought or a Happy Christmas when theyā€™re heading off,
Donā€™t always see the negative, giving is nice too sometimes, but as I said, I need nothing, Iā€™d rather the charity route, and thatā€™s what I do myself, my own kids teachers got Bothar cards,

When we were growing up in the 80s we used to pay 60 quid to row out on gondola to see santy, wake up every morning to look for our elf and do Kris kindel with all our classmates but bro cremins could go and fuck if he thought he was getting a box of after eight.

No I donā€™t expect them to

Its much more visible with teachers, requesting gift cards and cash via revoult.

Many conpanies have policies against accepting gifts, which you can ignore but get the sack if you take the piss

Steady on. I said no such thing.
Iā€™ve defended the profession on occasion but this presents thing is a complete disgrace. It was very noble of you to write to the parents but really the issue should be tackled at management or government level.
Do you have kids arriving to your school without breakfast and/or lunch?

So thats alright then. Let the practice continue and you fellas can pretend that some kids and families arenā€™t put in a difficult position by the thoughtlessness or even greed of some teachers

That was the implication, not just from you, seized on by the other chap.
We have loads of kids that arrive to school hungry, but we feed them, and arrange generous Christmas parcels and money particularly for the Christmas period, we have some very generous benefactors.
What point are you trying to make? You canā€™t be that put out about a bottle of lynx or a cheap bottle of wine,

Surely school could advise at start of year, our teachers appreciate the gesture but this year weā€™d ask rather than a gift you make a donation (if you want to) to charity

The kids could select the charity that all donations go to

Asking for money via revolut

Guys maybe everyone needs to back off in the spirit of Christmas.

Peace and Love my e-friends

Nonsense. Youā€™d be in a bad way to associate lynx and ferrero with exploitation.
I was just calling out a moral hazard, while speaking up for kids and parents who have very little. Theyā€™re the real victims, not you.

I never said I was a victim?? You implied that I am encouraging children who canā€™t afford and will have to go without something else to bring me a gift, that is clearly the implication in a number of your posts, and I take exception to that :man_shrugging: thatā€™s all
