Once you get out to Carrigaholt and Kilbaha it’s like moving into another dimension.
I remember the last time I was down there I passed some house with a sign outside advertising itself as the HQ of the Rural Integration Association or some such organisation, which I imagined as an ultra-culchie boot camp for the Dubbiest of Dubs resettling to the Wesht. Your heart would go out to them on their first night in the wilderness, tucking into leaba in their Celtic or Manyoo jerseys, a million miles away from takeaways and coffee shops and bus corridors and gangland assassinations and electricity and running water.
