The Clash, Greatest Rock Band Ever?

And then they kicked Topper out and it started coming apart at the seams…

#TheOnlyBandThatMattered

Agreed.

Wonderful protest song set to the much of the music the rioters would be listening to.

Eh?
London Calling was released in the 70s.
The Brixton Riots were early mid 80s.

Wasn’t about the riots pal, but almost predicted them. Some heavy-handed policing in the years leading up to the riots, and that’s what Simonon was writing about. His only lyrical outing for them.

No shit mate, seeing as it predates the riots by a number of years.

Look, I’m only going to say this once more. It was NOT about the riots!

I should have said eventual rioters

London Calling was so good that this banger nearly didn’t make it:

Have a day, kid.

Can’t remember how to post videos, but check out Josh Rouse’s rather superb cover of Straight To Hell when you get a chance.

Poor Topper. He wrote Rock the Casbah himself in the recording studio, knocked it out on the piano and then played most of the music on it and Joe put a few lyrics to it. By the time it came out he was kicked out. He was squatting in a flat with nothing in it but a rug and a tv by the time it came out. The first time he saw the video for it he was curled up in a ball on the rug in the floor when it came on the tv in front of him.

Pure rock n roll.

Not signing in.

What’s your beef with the Clash. Fagan?

I never cared for their music.

Disappointed to note that. we march on regardless…

I’m feeling conflicted here. Fagan is the premier arbiter of good taste in music on the board but the Clash are my favourite band.

Wow, this could rock TFK to the core.
