The Clash, Greatest Rock Band Ever?

Paul Simonon was a cool fucker
TheClash aren’t my cup of tea, I wouldn’t say overrated because I never gave them a proper chance, I’ve probably listened to most of their stuff once and never went back to it, The Jam were the pick of that genre for me.

The greatest era of music for me 76-85. The Clash, The Cure, The Jam, Joy Division, The Smiths, The Specials, Stranglers, Pogues, Talking Heads … actually, there’s a thread on this… one sec.

The Jam were scutter. They weren’t even punk.

What a load of bilge

The Clash are to punk as Man United are to football.

Up your hole - The band evolved, re-invented themselves, embraced new sounds - the true sign of a good band. The Pistols were a one trick pony

Made up of overpaid prima donnas, very boring to watch, and tramps for fans?

People who don’t know anything about the subject follow them. A convenience if you like.

I like the Clash, but I also know they sold out from the off when they signed to Sony. Plenty of other far better examples of punk bands that espoused the punk ethos than the Clash.

Says the lad that was going to show bands when punk was in its pomp.

The Clash were broke after their first two albums - Punk moved on, they moved on.

New wave was the genre I was referring to, my older brother was a huge Jam fan, I was listening to them when barely out of school and you were bopping along to Belinda Carlisle and Brother Beyond.
I wouldn’t have a clash song on a double album of the best tunes from that era/genre

After saying you never listened to them… stick to bananrama

I’ve never had tiramisu but I certainly wouldn’t have it in my top 20 desserts.

The Clash were by far the best band around from 1976 to 1979, only surpassed by Joy Division’s brilliance. Music died in a kitchen in Macclesfield in 1980.

You didn’t even read what I said in your panic to get a shot in :joy:
That’s the kind of thing that makes you an admired poster

Did you catch me in one of your famous traps?

Mate, that’s just like… your opinion maaaaan.
I was a huge music fan once upon a time, I listened to the Clash plenty but they didn’t float my boat, there’s far too much new or undiscovered music to persevere with what you don’t like, poor old @ChocolateMice is taking it very personally, perhaps he’d prefer if we all just agreed with him on everything.

Some of us are still huge music fans.,
