The Tánaiste and the Labour Party leader Eamon Gilmore has issued a statement this evening thanking all of the Labour TDs who he says had the “courage” to vote with the Government today and help implement the social welfare bill.
Eamon Gilmore’s comments come after the Galway TD Colm Keaveney was expelled today from the Labour Parliamentary Party after voting against the controversial bill, which gives effect to cuts to child benefit and the carers’ respite grant, as announced in the budget.
He said he took the decision with a heavy heart, because of his opposition to cuts which will affect women and children.
Good Galway man Colm, Gilmore is some treacherous politician. At least a few Labour TD’s have principles, Colm, Roisín and a few more. The West’s Awake! :guns:
Fuck that gormless cunt Keaveny. This budget was harsh on bottom feeders mostly and even though some carers are suffering, the vast majority will survive their cuts too.
The government is doing okay imo and although decisions being made by it are unpalatable for Labour ranks, it is better to make unpopular decisions for the good of the country as opposed to pander to the press to save ones seat.
i don´t think thats the issue…i think it was more where the cuts were made…Irish women and children bearing the brunt…something rotten about that no matter how its dressed up…
Neither middle or upper. No silver spoon here pal.
Self made and can’t stand watching lazy useless pricks milk the system without ever being challenged about it, the same usless fuckers who never worked throughout the boom may i add.
I might take this joker seriously if he self-immolated in front of the Dail or even carved “4 Real” into his arm, as it is he has done nothing of any note or sacrifice.
I feel sorry for people who just dismiss this as another gombeen looking out for his seat at the next election. To be honest populist statements like that higlight the reason we are where we are. The Irish are not free thinkers just know it alls.
This is a long game being played here by Keaveney and its quite intriguing. The printing Press Parliamentary leadership have it made it clear his position is untenable as chairman so how will they go about removing him? He knows they need to call an emergency meeting of the entire party but that only be done though the committee, none of whom are sitting TD’s. This thing will ultimately be debated at a special congress of the Labour Party where I expect Sticky Eamon will be relieved of his leadership or come a damn sight close to it in any case. At least we’ll have the spectacle of them at the very least washing their dirty Red Undies in public. I won’t vote Labour but at least CK did what he did for the party he believes in. The people opposing him certainly are not. If the labour Party can purge themselves of the leadership that murdered Seamus Costello & are currently killing the disabled[ok I over-egged the 2[sup]nd[/sup] one] then they are worthy of my vote yet again.
there could be fun ahead alright, when faced with the choice between gilmore/rabbitte etc and someone who for whatever reason has stood up for what they are supposed stand for then youd imagine the grassroots can only take one side, i hope they eat themselves up, rabbitte, gilmore, quinn, howlin and so on…rotten fuckers, no good useless cunts working out their pensions
