Food was nice but hey :slightly_smiling_face:

There was a fella on talk radio this morning in the UK who’s involved with some brewery and a chain of pubs. The pubs seem to be tied into year long pricing contracts (fixed rate I suppose). Anyway one of the pubs will move from an estimated 30k a year bill to 120k

Fuck sake. She rings Electric Ireland, gives them the actual read. They credit the invoice and rebill her.

Christ Almighty.

Great Publicity though. Bit like Phoenix Nights getting on Crime Time.

Is she roasting her own beans for wholesale I wonder which would take significant power consumption?

UK does look fucked - we get 2/3rds of our gas from UK……

It’s hilarious when the UL alumni get all misty eyed here, a gigantic college where everybody’s experience revolves around about 5 different businesses :man_shrugging:

You need to be changing electricity companies every 12 months. Its ridiculous that they offer new customers a better deal than existing, I suppose they think that by locking someone in and changing the rates after 12 months, people wont bother changing or moving again.

I’m also meticulous in tracking the costs and usage of electricity. Standard rates I was getting in 2014 have changed little. Day and night rate in 2013 was .1815 and .0897 per KW and standing charge was .5277. Day and night rates now are .1996 and .0986 and standing charge is 1.15. So the general usage rates have gone up by 10%, but the standing charge has gone up by 117%.

However, there was a huge dip in prices from 2018 to 2020, and prices since then have increased by about 45%. So if we look at it in isolation, yes there is a big increase in general electricity charges, but that was preceded by a fairly big reduction.

Cant stress enough though to change every 12 months. When I last moved I was onto energia for ages trying to get price down and get their best offer. Couldnt get it any lower, so arranged the switchover. When that went into them, the very same girl who was giving me their best rates rang me to offer a further reduction. It still wasnt matching the new offer I had, but it just proves that they never work to keep customers on their best rates.

Log into bonkers.ie, know your usage, get best deal, put reminder in calendar for 12 months time.

Rince and repeat.

It was an actual true read. Sez on the bill.

Had same with bord Gais switching to Energia. I asked had they checked my last call when they rang back to offer counter offer. They admitted they hadn’t. Hung up as I was getting a dual fuel offer too also.

Lads.

When it was blowing a consistent gale from October through to April last year, what did they do with all the excess wind generated power?

mad, I’m now with Bord Gais after leaving Energia. Chances are energia will have the best “new customer” offer rates when I go looking again. Utterly stupidity in the sector, but they get enough by skimming off people who dont keep an eye on their costs and rates and change.

It’s the same with broadband tv. Sky offering me a cracking deal a month after I switched to Vodafone

None of them are giving fixed rates… Whatever you sign up to now could be shifted up again in short term

sold it to the UK.

Massive power line being done right now in our area from the Great Island Power plant to sell to Wales. https://www.greenlink.ie/summary

yeah but at least if you start at a lower base, its still not as much as the increase if you are higher. I had an argument with one provider when I specifically asked for planed increases and got them to lock me in for 6 months. When they tried change it before then I got a refund and they locked it into the full 12 months. And then I left.
