The private sector could only dream of such a raise

The pension liability and the refusal by all political parties to address retirement age issue is building up to a proper financial hole. We better hope the MNCs are still here.

A 6.5% pay rise in a 10% inflation year is a pay cut comrade. Donā€™t pull down your fellow workers, stand on their shoulders to get your own victory

The ballsy lads/ladies worth their salt have already marched in to the bossā€™ office and demanded a raise. The rest can fuck off. Private sector innitā€¦

Matching pay increases to inflation will lead to moreā€¦ā€¦ inflation.

Not matching pay increases to inflation will lead to moreā€¦poverty.

Absolutely. Itā€™s just the definition of ā€œthe richā€ where it gets trickier.

Not really. Just make everyone pay the same 50% tax all us plebs have to. As you get richer you pay less tax

The marginal rate of tax in Ireland is 52 per cent. Weā€™ve one of the most progressive income tax systems in the world.

There are a few high profile non residents who donā€™t pay that alright.

If youā€™re arguing about taxing multinationals at 50% then they simply wouldnā€™t be here to be taxed.

Iā€™m talking about the likes of Joe Duffy

Arenā€™t there tax bands for paye employees? So the more you earn the more you pay?

Entertainers and the like more than likely operate through a ltd company or agency

Yes, like I said, rich people pay less tax. Close the loopholes

Its not a loophole. You want to shut down the ability to open businesses? Fuck me

Opening businesses. No.
Opening businesses as a tax evasion scheme? Yes

Anybody can form a company and set up their own business as a consultant/contractor.

RTƉ were breaking the law in large parts by treating employees as contractors and there will be a bill to be paid.

Absolutely, so tax dividends etc at the marginal rate. Easy peasy

I for one welcome our FFG overlords.

Joe Duffy would generate more revenue as a ltd company than he would as a direct employee.

He pays corporation tax and vat on every invoice, pays his contributions on whatever wage or dividend is paid out. Probably employs accounting agencies etc to do any taxes which have PAYE workers

If that was true then why the fuck would Joe set himself up as a company?

Would it be because that isnā€™t true at all perhaps?
