Minister Donohoe announces a levy on concrete blocks and similar materials to raise €80m to help fund redress scheme for defective construction. So increasing building costs for all new housing.

Theyre putting a levy on a material that is required to build the houses, in order to rebuild the houses.

What kind of think tank thought it would be a good idea to make it even more expensive to rebuild the defective homes?

Considering some of the numbers involved in that redress stuff, it’s a drop in the ocean.

Seems a very Broad stroke all right. Would expect more detail and clarifications on it. They haven’t specifically called out pre-cast, that would be more lucrative as more aligned with commercial projects whereas with block and pour your hammering the domestic/self build market.
