Youโ€™d wonder if theyโ€™d hang their hat on the change in Taoiseach coming down the line as justification.

Very unlikely Iโ€™d say.

The GPs wont be happy

These corporarion tax receipts wont be here in perpetuity with vast majority spread across a low concentration of organisations. We donโ€™t need the tide to go out to know that we have been swimming naked. There is good reason so much of this are one off measures. The inflation is not transitory and will be here indefinitely. People over a period of time will have to recalibrate their expectations and there will be a huge shift in standard of living.

Thereโ€™s a real shortage of them coming down the tracks. The days of the family doctor who looked after you day and night cradle to grave is going.

No chance.

Ciarรกn Ferrie on Twitter: โ€œThe 10% concrete tax is an interesting one. It is right that the government should fund the mica redress scheme, and the money has to come from somewhere. The mica problem is one caused by a combination of poor industry standards and poor government regulation of construction.โ€ / Twitter

Iโ€™d say that FFG have probably conceded that SF will be in power next and are making arrangements for this already.

Yep. A lot of these receipts the last few years have gone into current spending. Thereโ€™s a rakeload more to come in windfall taxes yet when the rate increases to 15%. Be nice to see it out into future proofing the country.

Heโ€™s not wrong eitherโ€ฆ The cost of living has been out of control for a number of years, it was masked by covid. But weโ€™ll be thankful steps have been taken to help pensioners in particular this winter.

Itโ€™s an absolutely obscene tax on income.

They may be in power but itโ€™ll have to with FF because FG nakedly despise them. Civil war politics may be suspended to remain in power. Days like today make it ever more possible (as distinct from probable).

They could even have enough without FFG.
