Hopper got offers to all of his university applications except Manchester. Now he’s hoping to get Galway or somewhere in Ireland, but until yesterday I’d convinced myself that nothing would change, and he’d be here in September whistling round the house, and we’d drive to school on a weds morning, and we’d go to swimming together ever Saturday in the yeti, and then for breakfast, my favourite times of the week, but it’s just hit like a hammer that he’ll be gone, and all will be charged, and changed utterly. I started greeting yesterday, and lockes post above has me at it again in McDonalds such that a labourer across at the next table has just asked if I’m alright. What t f way has society gone. He’s offers for Glasgow Nottingham, Leeds and Sheffield, and didn’t get an offer for the university down the road from where we live and work and contribute. I’ve even taken their students for work experience the utter cunts.

Wouldn’t it do wonders for the lad to go away from home for a few years to a nice university?

This is life my friend. We all had to move off away and strike out on our own. It may even crown the chap. Parenting is tough to let go of but you’re a great aul dad and you’ve raised him well. He’ll be grand.

Economics I think. Something along those lines. Herself went to Nottingham. It’s a lovely city I think, but at this stage I’d prefer Ireland or Glasgow. He’s put Nottingham as first choice I think.

He’s keen to go. He says he had no intention of staying in Manchester, but I figured I’d lean (heavily) on him to stay if he doesn’t get Ireland.
Now that’s no longer an option. He’s not bothered, beyond saying that even though he didn’t want to go to Manchester, when you don’t get offered something, you kind of then want it.
I thought I’d be able to persuade him to stay. I’m pretty sure I would have been able…
Whatever happens now, he’s going to be gone in September. That’s 5 months

When the first lad was born during Covid, I managed to get a pint alone the next day. Just to reflect on things and take it in.

I normally only have Guinness from 3 places in Birmingham but made an exception for the day that’s in it and have got one in the local. One pint alone to reflect and toast the occasion.

I normally only have Guinness from 3 places in Birmingham but made an exception for the day that’s in it and have got one in the local. One pint alone to reflect and toast the occasion.

I’ve been seemingly reliably informed that Guinness comes to the mainland from Dublin as some kind of gloop. It all goes to Wigan where it is diluted/reconstituted and lorried out across the country. It’s no wonder it’s not that great anywhere.
Not sure if anyone can confirm, but that’s what I was told.

I dont see how that would be possible. Maybe they send tans the syrup, which is diluted and then fermented…that wouldn’t be much different to how its made in Ireland
