Having a team of Galacticos doesnât guarantee top performance.
Anyway Raul came on the scene back in the mid 90s, long before the Galacticos. He won a league under Capello.

Rvp v rvn. Stop going off topic.
Technically he rvp was a better player with a better sort of finish.
But I would be old school in saying a goal is a go regardless.
Both had good reflexes I front of goal.
Ruud had major injuries which curtailed his dutch career.
I suppose its horses for courses
Bergkamp shit all over both.
Also my impression of both is that they were arseholes personality-wise. Particular dressing room personalities can make a difference.
Dwight Yorke I think was a very good influence personality-wise on that Manchester Unted team for a short time and exactly what they needed in 1998/99 but his personality probably became counter-productive soon afterwards.
A lot of the pundits reckon it was the dutch teams egos that let themselves and their nation down when it came to tournaments.
The atmosphere would of been the same as the English with different factions in the dressing room.
No but as long as things donât turn into a complete shitshow it gives you a huge chance. Real Madrid had ridiculous firepower in that first Galactico period. Del Bosque was the right man to bring it together. They collapsed after he left.
His goal against Argentina. Quarter final of the World Cup,
Pure class.
If English teams over the years have typically been filled with selfish, stupid, opinionated players, the Dutch have been filled with selfish, intelligent, opinionated players. Itâs both a strength and a weakness for them.
2003 they sacked Del Bosque, bought Beckham and sold Mackelele.
Thatâs when they lost the plot.
This is going off topic but I once viewed a interview with gary Neville he said the united players had there own island and no other team members from other clubs where allowed on to it.
I suppose fergie may have instilled this trait in them.
They seemed to be going well enough until about March of that year. Then there was the Madrid bombing and they lost to Monaco who had Morientes on loan from Madrid. The whole thing collapsed rapidly after that and it wasnât until Cristiano Ronaldo signed for them that they became a proper force again.
Real Madrid as a club seems to require a particular personality type as manager. Somebody with quiet authority who puts a basic tactical framework in place and seen as largely hands off. Del Bosque, Ancelotti and Zidane all had that.
All Dutch people are arseholes.
Iâm going to say the opposite if everyone else, in that i think VP was a slightly more accurate finisher. It was my understanding that VP had the best shots to goal ratio in the PL and he also scored a lot of spectacular goals from outside the box. However I think VN was a better lone front man, led the line better and offered a lot of tactical flexibility to his team as a frontman, more than heâs given credit for. He could hold the ball up better and turn and run with it. He was stronger. Then he was a brilliant poacher, better than VP. He was a better dribbler than VP even though VP was slightly better technically and had a slightly better first touch. VP was probably a bit better tempermentally, probably a slightly better professional. VP would have been a decent player for Guardiolaâs Barcelona, RVN wouldnât have fitted in. Overall Iâd go for RVN though but it might depend what you want.
Delighted the thread has stimulated debate. I have a few others up my sleeve. If anyone else has suggestions feel free to PM them onto me and I will ration them out
Van Nistelrooy had much stronger mental attributes than Van Persie who was a bottler.
Didnt Van N have a mental breakdown and attacked Ferguson and left after it?
RVN left and was instrumental in Real Madrid winning a title under Capello, their first in four seasons.
Fergie showed players the door those who undermined him and those who were beginning to tower over him.
If it was fergieâs time to do it all over again I dont think his bully boy tactics would work.
Ferguson was the best man manager there ever was. If one approach wasnât working heâd change it.
When you were no longer useful or cunt acting outweighed usefulness, gone.
