He filled in gaps in champions league finals and semi finals. There’s no hiding place in these games. He was around 30/31 when he moved on and he left because he couldn’t get a longer contract off man united.
I do yeah. I hurled against his father.
Finnan comfortably for me. Lovely footballer.
O Shea was a coward
O Shea couldn’t have been too far away in 08/09. He’d a very good season for man united. Overall there’s very little between them. None of them had stellar Irish careers for a long period or least had a big impact in an international tournament but in terms of club careers o Shea was miles ahead.
He was rarely exposed. He was behind some all time greats too.
“In any team of the decade, the full-back slots are already nailed down – Denis Irwin at right-back and Denis Irwin at left-back.” – Alan Hansen
He got lucky 300 times?
OShea had tonnes of poor performances. He was a bit part player for years on a team that dominated England, that doesn’t make him a great player. He had some good moments but all the others had far more football in them. A shame Coleman had so many injuries and he never kicked on, a fine player. Carr was arguably the best of the lot on ability, he was top notch but not sure if it Transfered to Ireland and it was short lived. Finnan was the most consistent … You always got at least a 7/10 from him. That’s a great sign of a player, that he could so consistently deliver quality performances werk in and week out.
He was regularly making 25 plus league appearances a season. Hardly bit part.

Did Finnan start on two champions league finals for Liverpool?
Yes.
@Big_Dan_Campbell a suggestion to leave Man Utd players out of these debates as the Man Yoo fans are too biased
He was subbed off v Milan at half time when they were three nil down. Played the full game in 07.
OShea scored a goal at Anfield. Greatest player to play the game…
He was subbed in 05 because Rafa went to a three of lads who could play Centre Half and Didi just in front.
Answering the question asked, Gary Kelly for me, although he didn’t do it for long enough.
John O’Shea was more than a bit part player at United and was a solid defender, gave away the ball a bit too much but was outstanding in his breakthrough season at United particularly when bombing on in attack.
Remember him doing a number on Zlatan in the 08 CL QF at OT.
Tomorrow will be a hurling one
