Look at all he’s achieved his his graduation - ridden and then married Mrs Sullivan’s lovely daughter, travels extensively to luxury resorts, lounges around at leisure and has a sole responsibility in the form of the dog…

To be honest pal, you seem to spend an awful lot of time worrying about the future. Why would you let some unknown future event that might never happen spoil your present? You might win the lotto for all you know.

Realistically whenever you get your PhD you’ll end up either lecturing in a place like Limerick, Tralee or Ennis, which are all nice towns, or else doing university administration, which is one of the piss-easiest jobs in Ireland. Either way you’ll have a slightly-above-average life.
