The Dodger is in The Joy

He was definitely personable at that stage. Sort of nice but came across as a bit of an innocent. I remember a pen picture in a match programme asked him what his favourite food was. ‘Mince’ says dj

Was everyone in that household crooked? The mother would changes prices on items in supermarket, walk out with bags of shopping without paying for it and fill up the tank and do a runner. They say he is a narcissist and lacks empathy but they hardly all are. Some of it must boil down to what they saw too growing up.

I honestly think money meant nothing to him unless he stole it.

There’s many anecdotes that he refused money from IT Carlow and various GAA Clubs when he presented medals.

It was a compulsion to steal. I doubt he understands the significance of his crimes even.

Its all just very odd and sad.

That’s very interesting. You’d wonder alright.

Get tom Humphreys to write it…

Quite possibly. There was definitely a thrill element to it. But it was the lifestyle too. Your one reported he’d need 3 grand to get through a weekend. Thats a lot of dough if you’re not into Drink, Coke or Hookers and he didnt gamble either.

My aul lad got him to present medals in our club in 2000 after the All Ireland. It was for a minor B camogie championship win. He brought the liam McCarthy and wouldn’t take money when it was offered. He was renowned for this at the time.

You just can’t trust a corner-forward. Intrinsically sneaky bastards

He must have had no appetite whatever for the 9-5. Could’ve set up any kind of a company, cleaning, security or whatever; he’d have got every contract going but he obviously just couldn’t face into it…‘there has to be more to life than this’, but I still want the rewards.

Joe made a show of himself on the podcast talking about DJ. the only feeling he has is compassion. Ffs.

But as @binkybarnes says below, he seemed to have no interest in taking money honestly.

A very strange way to be, but he’s obviously wired very off.

I suspect he adored the worship, and preferred the nice guy doesn’t charge reputation. Medal money wouldn’t have put a dent in his golf club fees anyway. He’s a cunning individual and utterly shameless. Charming but I suspect too narcissistic to be truly bright.

Simpletons telling him he should have been paid like a Premier League footballer is part of the problem.

Jack Fagan caught 3 or 4 of Stephen O’Keeffes puck outs, and then emboldened dropped back to his own halfback line and caught a few of Eoin Murphy’s.

Simpleton believing it is the problem

On the interview there the journalist said even for a county player he was the most injured man ever. He was always going around with bandages wrapped around him prominently. And then he was also the victim of the most crimes ever. Compulsive lying for attention.

Probably the finest moment of Ray D’Arcy’s career there.
