The election of the 30th Dáil

This Martin Cullen cunt cost this state €52 million in useless e-voting machines and he walks away thinking he’s a fcuking hero. He should be hanging from a scaffold for incompetence in my opinion.

As a result of a back complaint it says on rte.ie. Surely not a case of another of our honourable politicians getting stabbed in the back

How serious can a back complaint be? He’s saying his consultant told him to step down… it’s all a bit odd is it not.

I’m hearing the Green changes are still on schedule.

Surely he’s getting the road and this is a more honourable way of going. Will the pension not be affected by him quitting?

no, you need to serve 1064 days (iirc) to be entitled to a ministerial pension.
he’s around a lot longer than that
the greens qualify in june.

Ha, we’ll have the election announcement then, not a minute before.

I think today or else yesterday was day number 1,000 for the current Dail.

if you were to believe Artfoley and ignore the outcome of a High Court defamation case then Cullens back is fucked from riding his PR consultant.

Here comes the reshuffle.

Shout of Mary White getting a junior ministry.

It’ll be interesting to see what’s done with the Mid West.

The only option looks like giving Tony Kileen the nod. If Cowen goes for Peter Power there could be a major move against it from the O’Dea ‘army’ of supporters.

Mary White is a shoe-in for Trevor’s job.

Cuffe claimed yesterday that he was still unsure about the decision but you can bet he’ll get something or he’ll walk. It would be the first victory of any sort of the Greens if they managed to get themselves an extra ministry but FF can’t claim no knowledge of the reshuffle deal so it’s possibly the only way out of not getting rid of Gormley. And I’d say Cowen is perfectly happy with the criticisms that Gormley and Harney are fielding.

Tony Killeen and Pat Carey have been nominated for positions in the Cabinet as part of the Government reshuffle.

Mary White, Ciaran Cuffe and Sean Connick (woo-hoo a Wexican) promoted to Junior minister positions.

Also from RTE.ie: Following changes proposed by the Taoiseach: Mary Coughlan moves to Education, Éamon Ó Cuív moves to Social and Family Affairs, Mary Hanafin moves to Arts, Sport & Tourism and Batt O’Keeffe moves to Enterprise, Trade & Employment.

The end of Cowen? WIth this result and recent criticism a push against him could be well on the way.
A new opinion poll shows that two thirds of voters do not believe the Taoiseach can lead Ireland out of the current recession.

The Red C poll in tomorrow’s Sunday Business Post also shows that support for Fianna Fáil has dropped by three points since last month.

The poll was conducted on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, when the news was dominated by the Cabinet reshuffle.

More than 1,000 voters around the country were asked their views - and the results are not very encouraging for Fianna Fáil.

After an upward trend since the start of the year, support for Fianna Fáil is down three points to 24%.

Fine Gael are still in a commanding lead - up one point to 35%. Labour are unchanged at 17%.

The Greens are also unchanged at 5%. Sinn Féin continue a recent upward trend, up one to 10%, while Independents and others are also up one to 9%.

Red C also asked voters for their views on the Taoiseach - only 27% say he has made a good Taoiseach - 69% say he has not, and just 4% do not know.

And crucially, just 29% believe Mr Cowen is capable of leading Ireland out of the recession - two thirds, 66%, do not think he can, while 5% don’t know.

Those are disappointing figures, and the show a complete reversal from the last time the Sunday Business Post asked similar questions about Mr Cowen almost two years ago, just before he took over as Taoiseach.

support for FF = 24%
support for Cowen = 27%
faith in Cowen to lead us, Moses-like, out of recession = 29%

where in the name of all that’s good and holy have that 27-odd % been for the past 2 years?

As you know T-E, FF could propose selling every first born child into slavery and they would still get 20% of the vote. It depressing.
