When you have 7 in your family to fill it?

That’s the way it’s gone.

Saw a BMW iX yesterday. One of the nicer looking EVs I have seen.

Starts at about 100k

looks like a knock off of the jag i-pace.

for that kind of money id go with the i8

Waste of fucking money. What justifies the price tag? The mechanicals are as simple as a milk float and the batteries are the same as an MG which is a third of the price.

Over here, hardly anyone buys an electric car. They generally use a work scheme lease, and look only at the monthly payment. As it’s a pre-tax payment, the difference can often be rationalized as small (sure it’s only another 200 a month and half that for tax), so the price difference seems less.
If you pointed out it was actually probably about four grand more over the three years for it maybe, though I’m always surprised by how much people spend on cars.

You answered your own question there, minimal servicing and parts support means increased purchase price. Absolutely not worth it

I suppose an important software update doesn’t hold the same dread as a timing belt that’s about to go.

True.

I read somewhere that with the likes of a Tesla they will build all cars with every feature from the factory but each option must be unlocked through the software.

So, say you buy a car with autopilot and stump up for the feature. You then trade in that car for a new one down the road. Tesla will then wipe the features. Joe soap who buys your old car has to then pay Tesla again if they want autopilot.

Things like changing a lightbulb are now extremely expensive dealer jobs due to the cars design and use of LED fixtures.

Would that differ if sold privately?

Probably in the EU but definitely not in the states, Tesla were disabling their cars that had outstanding unpaid finance and telling repo companies where to find the car.

The dealer is allowed to do as they wish though

So if Tesla went bust, they probably have two switches at the front door. One for the lights and one to turn off all their cars.

There’s also the issue of if you crash a Tesla there’s only one authorised repair place in Ireland and no dealership network and a lot of tech to reset or fix

And they refuse to sell parts for anyone to fix themselves.

If Tesla run short of a few quid, they’ll probably all crash themselves.

The new MG seems to tick a lot of boxes in terms of price and range

It looks cheap.
