The Franco Sensi AS Roma 2013/14 Season Thread

Maicon looks back to his best.

Ljajic replaces Florenzi.

Daje!!!

Lovely incisive pass from Totti picks out Maicon on the overlap whose driven cross is deflected in. Great work initially from Strootman to regain the ball after losing it.

Pjanic has scored a Totti special - delightfully chipping the keeper from 25 yards out.

Gervinho nearly with a third in three minutes.

This is an excellent spell. Totti is pulling the strings and Maicon owns the right wing.

This could be a rout.

Mandorlini (the Verona manager) even applauded the Pjanic chip.

Ljajic.

3-0.

Cracker.

Cā€™e solo un Capitano!

Verona look like getting a goal at all @Rudi ?

Gervinho misses another great chance. We could be 6 or 7 up.

No. They havenā€™t even had a shot on goal. We are pulverising them.

Grazie Roma.

An absolutely sensational second half performance. We can dream.

Not really much happening today, the only transfer that looks like it could come to fruition is Quagliarella if we manage to offload Borriello and Juventus get a replacement in.

Rudi Garcia has really impressed me since taking over. He has some lovely words about the Roma fans and Totti today.

Rudi Garcia is surprised by the ā€œpassionā€ at Roma and sees Francesco Totti as ā€œone of the very best players in the history of the sport.ā€

The former Lille Coach took over this summer and is having a great start to his Serie A career, winning both opening games against Livorno and Verona.

ā€œItā€™s clear that itā€™s a place where you feel the passion of the supporters. You canā€™t compare it to Lille, really. Itā€™s more like Marseille to the power of 10,ā€ he told World Soccer.

ā€œI think that one of the qualities a Coach needs is to be able to adapt himself to different situations. He has to understand his different audiences and know how to adjust the role that he plays.

ā€œI read a lot of biographies and articles about football managers, but also high-achieving sports people in general. There are valuable things to be learned from all kinds of different personalities; itā€™s up to me to interpret those things in my own way.

ā€œI donā€™t have one manager who I try to model myself on, but I have a huge respect for all my colleagues who have succeeded in reaching the top level of the game. In the end, everyone needs to have their own personality. I have mine, so I donā€™t need to copy anybody else.ā€

Garcia is trying to find a middle ground between the all-attack philosophy of Zdenek Zeman and other more practical tacticians at Roma.

ā€œI think football is a spectacle and people come to watch a spectacle. At the same time, we must not forget that they will be happiest if we are winning games. But personally I think that playing well gives us the best chance to win matches ā€“ and give a good spectacle at the same time.ā€

He confirmed he will try to form a ā€˜council of wise menā€™ within the squad to help advise him of their mood, starting with captain Totti.

ā€œFrancesco is not only a formidable player ā€“ a ā€œfuoriclasseā€ as you say in Italy ā€“ but also a man with great qualities outside of football.

ā€œFor me he is one of the very best players in the history of the sport. What I would really love is to win something with him at Roma.ā€

La Gazzetta say that Totti has agreed a new deal at Roma until heā€™s 40 (36 now). Lines up a future coaching role too.

Totti usually scores against Parma.

Ljajic has a velvet touch, he may not be quite the athlete Lamela is but I think he is an even better dribbler.
