The GAA Infrastructure Thread

I’d say it might have saved you 10-15 mins overall but then you’d be caught behind 2 tractors and then lose it all. Next time, pull into the Farmers Kitchen in Drinagh for grub and let the traffic disappear

Best road & route from Wexford Town?

Wexford, Bypass New Ross, Waterford, Clonmel, Cahir, Motorway to Horse & Jockey. Thurles.

Only an idiot like @Pirlo would go cross country via Inistioge etc

I’ve cousins in Bridgetown that I’d prob call to next time. At the time we’d the small lad so was conscious of getting him to bed at a reasonable time. Took us 3 hours and he didn’t go to sleep until past ten so that went out the fucking window :joy:

Great article from the games premier journalist.

Cahair has spent much of the last decade moaning about the level of funding Dublin GAA was receiving. Now a 35k stadium is too big for Irelands 2nd city because of their ‘limited fanbase’.

He is right though. It’s way up in the corner and not going to be used for anything other than Ulster football games. Most of which are home and away and Antrim have no fans for football and play in Corrigan park or the Glens for the hurling.
PUIC is an absolute white elephant but at least it has the munster hurling to keep it going and Cork hurlers will draw a crowd when going well. Plus concerts etc
Casement could make some sort of living from concerts as well I’m sure, but it’s not for the GAA to take that kind of a punt and it already has Windsor and Ravenhill.
They should have a combined stadium for all three of course, but the ship has sailed on that one I think.

I dont really care about the money but I just hope the Ulster Final remains in Clones and the Ulster Club Football Final never gets moved from the Athletic Grounds.

Would I be right in thinking you haven’t been at an Ulster final in a good few years? I just struggle to see how anyone could enjoy the experience as it currently is - and that’s even before the ball is thrown in!

Ah ya shur the Provincial Final’s have lost nearly everything already. They’ll hardly even be played at all within 5 years.

Corrigan Park is not much more than a Council pitch. The Dublin experiment has shown what can happen when money is invested in urban areas - but trying to get kids excited at the thought of one day running out in Corrigan Park is no easy task.
In the new championship format one round of games are at a neutral venue, why couldn’t some of them be in Casement? Same for 1 or 2 AI quarter finals in football if the teams suited. Wasn’t there a report a few months back that hardly anyone down south knew someone from north of the border - could be the making of ye to broaden yer horizons.

Concerts, lolz.

I’d say as many recent Ulster club finals have been played in Omagh as Armagh. You have been a very fast convert to the Boxit Athletic Grounds, I’m sure you could embrace Casement equally successfully.

2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2021, 2022 all played in The BoxIT Athletic Grounds. Maybe one or two more.

It an absolutely perfect venue for it. I was a little worried when we didn’t get a Day/Night game for Glen v Kilcoo last December but the raucous atmosphere exceeded all expectations.

It would be lost in Casement.

That much is true. It’s the worst county ground I’ve been to and I go to a lot of games in Walsh Park and Dungarvan. Maybe Louth would give them a run for their money. You can literally drive past it and miss it. And the half a field with the long grass behind the non Whiterock Road end goal takes some beating.

Tis plenty good enough for the Belfast crowd is the approach taken by the rural simpleton Cahair. You must remember Cahair also put forward the idea that Celtic Park should be sold and a new stadium for Derry built in his own patch - he wouldn’t be the most forward of thinkers.

Where is his patch?

He is a north Derry fella

Derry have a strange relationship with Celtic Park in fairness. They play as often or more in Owenbeg.

They do, but the carnival atmosphere generated by the Dublin game this spring showed why you dont put your main base in Dungiven if you want to grow the game. The league game was a brilliant day in the city, enjoyed by locals and travelling supporters alike.
