Itā€™s the beauty of your campaign to kill rural ireland, youā€™ll also kill the GAA as well.

While Cork recorded a decrease of just 20 teams in that period, Dublinā€™s fall has been dramatic, over 31% from 2,394 in ā€˜19 to 1,631 last year. Their areas where they have suffered the biggest blows are in youth hurling (912 teams to 528) and youth football (1137 teams to 735).

Strange how that ties in exactly with when they went messing around with the minor/u21 age grades

Very interesting reading, we enjoyed an increased and are going from strength to strength. Whilst thereā€™ll be no GAA in Tipp within 5 years.

Youā€™d wonder how many kids stopped playing various sports and never went back. Covid robbed a generation of that 16-18 years old window that is very often the pinnacle of their sporting career.

It certainly was the pinacle of mine.

Iā€™d say most lads never get back to that rarefied atmosphere. Lads who never got there in the first place end up on Strava years later seeking validation but itā€™s simply too late.

Half the games at u19s grade this year were walkover. It was similar at 21s.
I would imagine those teams have been counted as ā€œregisteredā€ but never fulfilled a fixture.

The GAAā€™s apology for nearly killing the game by fucking around with age grades will be interesting. Iā€™m sure thereā€™ll be a large slice of humble pie.

The GAA will continue to be popular as a child minding service at least. Given the net immigration, youā€™d expect numbers to follow.
Retention is the thing.
