I never understood why Guns n Roses were given the label “heavy metal”. Was it their hair? They were a proper punk/blues band who later brought in elements of Queen-style rock opera. But they weren’t heavy metal. Heavy metal was basically an umbrella term for bands who liked to thrash guitars but didn’t have proper songs and were shit. Guns n Roses always stood out from their American peers because they were actually good and everything was was about the primacy of the song.
