The Glorious 12th of July

@ChairmanDan will be very conflicted here

Not far off the “turn” now as they say in golf and then it’s all homeward bound to the great day.

Should be a splendid marching season in 2025 especially with the long range forecast being for a scorcher of a summer.

The great day falls on a Saturday in 2025 and the great news is that the first British Lions test against the Cadbury Wallabies isn’t until a week later, avoiding a clash between the summer’s two greatest events.

Reverend Gibson has clarified matters here. Context, not to mention the source of this non-story should be noted.

Reacting to what was said in the publication of the Irish state papers, a senior member of the Orange Order described it as a “throw away comment” with no context of the totality of the conversation.

Grand Secretary, the Rev Mervyn Gibson commented that “her late Majesty always acknowledged and thanked the institution for our proclamation of loyalty each year on 12th July”.

“Let it be clear, four words from a ‘private’ conversation with no explanation, quoted by a foreign ambassador and open to interpretation will not diminish the affection the Orange Institution had for her late Majesty, nor will it affect the loyalty we have for the current King,” he added.

It really does creep up on you every year. Tomorrow is the big day out for Eire brethren at the beach in Rossnowlagh.

@Cheasty what’s the line up of venues this year for the Big Day itself?

A lot of majority Catholic places there which is great to see. I make it at least eight, possibly nine, possibly ten if you throw in Rossnowlagh tomorrow.

Terrific for Brendan Rodgers that Carnlough has made the rota this year.

Paddy Kielty is trying to clear his schedule to get back for the Dundrum parade but word is it’ll be a Late Late Show as to whether he can make it.

Hopefully Northern Ireland fan Marty Clarke can make the Kilkeel parade.

Augher’s Eugene McKenna might have other things on that day.

In Keady it’s a last chance for the year for locals to wear their orange colours.

Sure to be a big Everton representation at the Southport parade while Kyle Lafferty will surely be home in Kesh for the big one there.

Jesus, accurate enough post when you look at the immigration stuff

Creep being the operative word.

Creep was sung by Radiohead and there will surely be a lot of transistor radios held to heads in the demonstration fields at Augher and Sixmilecross next Saturday keeping up to date with events at Croke Park.

Nearest them lads have been to water in a while.

C’mere @glenshane, I seen nordies on twitter saying they thought it strange that Tyrone were slotted for Sat. 12th for their match against the yerra’s (weren’t messing as far as I can tell?). This free stater thinks it best the red hands would be better off in Dublin for the day, as a lot of them would be down south anyway?

Well…there could be road closures etc. Even the local parades throughout marching season can cause a fair bit of disruption.
Fuck tyrone

Fuck Tyrone is right. I just thought it’d be best away from it all. But sure prices and that is a killer as well.

Those tyrone ones are buck eejits for county football. Half of them are incandescent at opponents not being blown up for being offside

I read that in a Down accent and laughed

Is that Rossnowlagh?

I’ve scant memories of attending as a kid. Donegal would be proud of their protestant communities, even in areas that would have been considered Republican strongholds during the troubles. They have been an integral part of the fabric of our villages, and from what I’ve been told dodged the sectarianism experienced by their brethren in the six counties. Sadly, their population in many parts are dwindling, the old stock, with emigration affecting their families as it is with their catholic neighbors, but with already small numbers, are feeling the pinch greatly. I was in Dunfanaghy recently, an area that would be nothing short of a ghost town if not for the residents and visitors, and an eaterie there recently got a glowing reference from Lord Kilclooney on his tweet machine. A sibling of mine did a bit of work for him in recent years and got a warm welcome in his northern residence. No idea where this post is going. It’s late.
