The Great Missed Opportunities Thread

Bandage missed a big opportunity here to demonstrate his skills as a moderator.
Good thing Dunph was on hand to step in and spare his blushes.

SS, it is my understanding that Bram Stoker used to live in Ravenswood house, in Bunclody, Co Wexford. I do not know whether he wrote Dracula there. I will attempt to find out more when I arrive in Bunclody on Sunday.

It is also my understanding that the noted pop singer Gilbert O’Sullivan used to live in the same house.
I will be forming a committee when I’m home to promote a joint Stoker / O’Sullivan festival. Festivak name suggestions are most welcome.

I would put the value of a combined Dracula/Gilbert O’Sullivan festival at a conservative €10 million the the local economy, Fitzy. A massive opportunity.

fuck off & die you utter utter simpleton

Indeed. I believe the local Eileen Aroon festival is showing its age. A meeting of bloodlusting nightdwellers and harmless baby boomer pretend hippies could indeed spark a huge injection into the local economy.

I’m glad to say that two years after I first floated this idea, the powers that be in Dublin have finally copped on and followed my idea pretty much word for word with the inaugural Bram Stoker Festival. I don’t want any credit or acknowledgement for this idea I’m just glad I was able to serve my capital city in any way possible to deliver us from the current economic malaise. I serve neither King nor Kaiser but Ireland.

thought Stoker wrote dracula in the house he lived in Fairview?..he lived in a house just into the left there where the howth road meets fairview…there´s a tiny park in front of the houses… :strokechin:

Thought he was in England when he wrote it but not sure.

yep you´re right…he was born in 15 Marino crescent… he went to London with some woman who had been up on oscar wilde apparantly…london is where he wrote dracula…

I think he got married in that church on Dawson St. When you see the likes of Whitby jumping on the Dracula bandwagon it’s about time Dublin took it’s fair share of the credit. I wish the Bram Stoker Festival the very best of luck and hope it will be an annual event. Has far more credence than Arthur’s Day imho.

´Marketers´ days is a fookin disgrace…only the fookin Irish wud fall for such shite…

Did you look through the line up of events? Looks complete shit and as twee as Arthurs Day ever was.

It’s a start, give it a chance. Arthur’s Day is an abomination.

SHANNONSIDER will be happy with todays Google ‘Doodle’

Anything that helps us shakedown yank tourists has to be looked into, Mac. The Bram Stoker Festival will be massive within a few years.

Much like Arthurs Day is now.

Jerry Kiernan ran in front of the car when I was stopped in traffic last night in Ranelagh, I still regret keeping the foot off the pedal.

A missed opportunity indeed. You should have maimed the sanctimonious twat.

he is a legend

one of our greatest sportsmen ever

I think it’s quite obvious at this stage that arts administrators in this country are farming our best ideas and turning them into cultural success stories. ‘It started on the Late Late Show’ is bollocks…it more than likely started on TFK.
