Why wouldn’t you embed that gola? I think Darran (note the second ‘a’) O’Sullivan’s was better because the ball came to him more quickly and he had to react faster. Didn’t Martin Daly of Clare score a backheel (possibly a point) against Cork one time in the 1990s? Not sure if they won or lost though.

Yes he did v Cork in 1997, clare went on to win that day but lost the munster final to Kerry

couldn’t embed it bandage what do you do? never tried now to be honest but i’m very lazy. Prefer that one I think because he had time to think about it whereas DarrAn’s was pure instinct.
Keep hearing about that Martin Daly one but have never seen it. Surely there’s a video of it out there somewhere?

In the T20 international between Sri Lanka and Australia today, Angelo Mathews catches a ball, realises his momentum is going to carry him over the boundary and tosses the ball back to Mahela to complete the catch. Incredible piece of thinking on the spot really.

Does it matter if the second guy makes the catch? I thought once you throw the ball then you’re deemed to have caught it?

You have to have the ball under control and be stationary for it to be a catch. So Mathews hasn’t “caught” it yet and if he carries it over the boundary then it is a six. By throwing it, he keeps the ball alive and since it hasn’t touched the ground, it is still in the air. Therefore, it’s out caught, technically caught by Mahela.

Right, I thought throwing the ball constituted control - hence why they always fling it up in the air - but I guess you have to be stationary first.

First fella rolls the ball under his legs to a fella who doesn’t even notice the ball has gone past him.
He then passes the ball 3 yards to fella who completely misses it.

It’s a miracle these boys figured out how to score a try alright.
