In fairness thatâs a battle Dublin could easily get pulled into as well. The bottom of the group could be absolutely epic with the top two playing the inevitable snoozefest.
The Joe McDonagh promotion battle would be epic as well with both Offaly and Wexford involved
Conor Lawlor going well at full-back for Carlow for a lad whoâd have played very little hurling up until last year. He was a mainstay on the football team for years and just tipped away at a bit of intermediate hurling with Carlow Town.
The GAA tinkering with structures every year is most annoying but going to Liam MacCarthy, Joe McDonagh, Christy Ring & Nicky Rackard has been excellent.
Whoâd have thought teams playing others of the same standard would lead to exciting games.
The football championship needs to go the same way, three or four tiers and not just two.
Theyâd probably get away with 3 tiers. Top 12, mid 12 and bottom 10. It would make 2nd tier more desirable to win. Relegate 2 up and down each year. Maybe 2 finalists in mid 12 play in a preliminary qtr final for Sam Maguire.
The current hurling championship format is excellent. A way to go yet, but Antrim, Westmeath and Carlow all operating next year at the top level would be a sign itâs working too.
