In GAA, red shorts can only work with a white or at a push a red jersey, ie. Tyrone or Derry. Carlow are in the same zone Mayo were in in the 1980s when they briefly tried red shorts as an experiment. Red shorts with the largely green jersey made them look ridiculous. Essendon Bombers in the AFL also tried this, pairing a black jersey with red shorts. It looked ridiculous. Red shorts also accentuate the tightness of GAA shorts and thatâs never a good thing.
