The Kevin Phillips Thread

The wife of former Premier League hotshot Kevin Phillips was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a young male pal was knifed.

Julie Phillips, 49, had broken lockdown rules to visit a group of lads in a two-bed terraced house when a fight broke out late on Saturday.

The mum-of-four was held overnight and quizzed with two men aged 20, but released without charge.

The men know Kevin and Julie’s eldest daughter.

The victim — named locally as 20-year-old Aigars Lipentis — remained in hospital on Monday after paramedics found him in a critical condition in Lichfield, Staffs.

Meanwhile ex-Sunderland, Southampton and England striker Kevin, 46, denied local rumours his wife was having an affair with one of the men.

He said she had been taking beers to the house.

Speaking at home in Rugeley, Staffs, he added: “Julie was a witness to the incident and she was released without charge.

“As you can imagine, she was very traumatised.

“But as regards to any other suggestions, they are complete nonsense.”

His wife, whose Range Rover was towed from the scene so police could check for clues, told officers she had been visiting her mother before stopping at the house.

A neighbour said that she had heard a man screaming and added: “It was terrifying.”

It is believed a man at the party fled and crashed into a Kwik Fit garage over a mile away.

On Monday, Nathan Michaels, 19, was charged with wounding with intent and possessing a blade when he appeared before JPs.

He was remanded in custody until June 5.

One of the 20-year-olds arrested is being investigated over a separate alleged drugs offence.

In March 2005, The Sun caught Julie cheating on Kevin with a toyboy mobile phone salesman.

She spent lunchtimes romping with 24-year-old Richard Martin and even showered him with cash.

But she and Kevin managed to save their marriage and they had another child together.

One for the Weird News Stories thread

Definitely a case of no smoke without fire.

Lads, she was just dropping some beers over the the friends of her teenage daughter. During a lockdown.

Nothing to see here.

Lads on this forum have been chastised for doing less during the lockdown

Listen, I’m sure this was a mercy mission.

Rough enough adding the last few paragraphs but it provides a fairly prejudicial context.

Probably more than one happy ending to this story.
