What are the opinions of the Liverpool fans on this board about the proposed takeover of Liverpool?
Happy with the expected extra cash? - I guess the stadium issue is crucial there.
Concerned about the sale of the club to overseas investors?

I heard about that.
The sheik wants to remain anonymous, but Im hoping its Sheik-in Stevens.
“Balls are fallin, all around me, teams are playin, everton are scum.
Its early season to be saying this, but: Well done Chelsea, you have it won”
You have given the answer there Rocko really. Of course the extra cash will be a help but on the other hand how stable are the foreign investors? We were linked to the now ousted Chinese primeminister couple of years ago whcih probably would have been detrimental if it had gone ahead. The question is how badly do you want the cash? As you said the stadium issue is critical. Arsenal financed their stadium with no foreign investment - mind you they have had very little to spend on players in the last few years. Liverpool are a bigger club so why shouldn’t we be able to do it.
So the question is how badly do you want money for players? Managers often hide behind this saying that they have no money so they cant buy top class players. Rubbish. The art of managment is about doing the best with the resources you got. You wheel and deal. For every 20million dud there is a two million bargain. Having more money to spend doesnt necessarily buy you success.
Another question is the stability of the investor? Will they pull out? Will they collapse? With Moores Liverpool fans knew that the club will be safe. Its not guaranteed now. The last thing you want to happen is to end up like Leeds.
I am against the takeover. I think that we may stand to lose more than we will gain
Interesting thoughts Farmer and I think I’d agree with you by and large.
On the stadium issue I’m not sure what the prospects are for building the stadium without fresh investment. To be honest Liverpool badly need a bigger and better stadium. It wasn’t a top class stadium in the 80s or 90s (behind Highbury, Old Trafford, Hillsborough, Villa Park etc.) and consequently it isn’t a top class stadium now. Liverpool’s pedigree suggests they should be playing in front of bigger crowds so they do need to find a way to finance that.
If you look at the money Liverpool have spent under Houllier and Benitez you’d be inclined to think that unless they got Chelsea style cash where they could buy the proven best-of-the-best then money isn’t going to provide success on its own. The two managers (and Ferguson at United) are guilty of wasting so much money on questionable talents, and more still on duds. No need to name names here but the most expensive team thread should cover it. Arsenal have proven that it’s possible to achieve success with investment in young players, who fulfill a club requirement of being athletic and skillful, rather than always spending big bucks on big names.
Also agree on the lack of transparency and responsibiliy of the new board. You just don’t know their footballing credentials. Dermot Desmond isn’t my favourite individual and he’s not an idea major shareholder for Celtic, but he is stable and rational and will always keep the club in a healthy financial state. I’d always rather him than some investor/speculator looking to make a pile of money.
hey rock, where do you get off censoring me?
I agree that we need a new stadium but my point is that we may not need an investor to do that. Mind you if you consider the amount of money been thrown away by the club in recent years on duds, then you wonder as to the club’s financial position. Are Arsenal possibly in a better financial state that allows them to be able to build the stadium themselves? I would doubt it however…
Stability is the key for me - you need to know that the club is in safe hands and won’t collapse. With the Sheiks this is not guaranteed - it is as simple as that. They may not carry out their business in the best interest of the club and Parry’s recent forray into looking for foreign investment (Shinawatra) doesnt fill me with confidence either…
You know why Ball Ox.
Well thats a fookin joke, i made a simple observation about traore and hesky. it was true
stick your website up your arse rock
I think stability is the key here. Haven’t the Moores family owned the club for years? I presume they would have its best interests at heart and wouldn’t sell it to some crowd of charlatans. Are they popular among Liverpool supporters? There’s more and more of these foreign investments cropping up year after year. West Ham being the latest after Villa earlier on in the season and then obvioulsy ManU and Chelsea in the last couple of years. It is dangerous enough to have the whole future of the club resting on the whim of one individual (in many cases these individuals know nothing about the game itself, the club, its traditions, values etc) so I’d be wary enough of this if I was a Liverpool supporter until all the facts emerge.
