The long and bumpy road to Super Bowl XLVII

actually the deal works out well for having gamepass. they changed the blackout to only 24 hours, and redzone is back on it as well.

Gamepass advantages (and costs) in summary for me please…

shows all games except the ones sky have, and you cant watch those until 24 hours after, this includes playoffs (I think, havent checked if they have amended this after hte sky deal has been announced). that is the only limitation on it. edit: sorry Costs €130 for the season

Has all games. Can watch 4 at the one time on one screen. Has redzone. Has previous games from seasons past. Can re watch all seasons games. HD quality with decent internet connection, only needs about 2mbs to get it working well. Has condensed games, ie it will show you a game where it only has from the snap of the ball to the end of the play, so you can watch a full game in about half an hour, no ads, waiting on timeouts etc.

Thanks - thought it might be restricted to picking 1 game and watching that and then waiting for the blackout. Sounds decent so. My connection will be able to handle it. Sky’s picks are often unappealing so may invest.

I am still to decide which franchise I should follow this season - any suggestions?

Welcome aboard.

Thought you might have jumped on the Seahawks bandwagon before it got going because of Russell Wilson. The Badgers struggled without him the weekend.

I read Vinny Curry’s sheer joy at joining his beloved Eagles and he inspired me. I knew they were my boyhood team too and that I must return to my home.

I’m pleased to announce that myself and Flano will be representing thefreekick.com at tomorrow’s season opener. I will also be going along to have a good laugh at the Jets on Sunday. Fair play to Rocko for organizing accreditation for me.

I will be live tweeting from both games.

Question for UPC subscribers - I take it I still can’t get Red Zone on UPC? So I would need the Game Pass to see all of the Giants games?

New York Giants - the best team in the best city in the best country in the world.

Yeah red zone is sky red button only. You’ll need game pass and sky sports to see all giants games live, if sky are showing them they’ll be blacked out on game pass.

That’s a balls really. How do UPC get away with charging the same price for Sky Sports?

Balls never realised that, stinkin UPC.

They offer better deals on ESPN so it’s a trade-off. I think it’s Sky who refuse to allow red button access - similar issues with Virgin in the UK.

I see the business logic but it’s hardly fair when you have a lot people who just don’t have the option of getting Sky in their apartment block. Trying to organize anything like that is a nightmare with management companies who have clearly been paid off to allow only one provider in.

It is a business decision. Similarly UPC know they have a virtual monopoly in a lot of apartments like you say, so thats why they charge so much for sky sports. And save money distributing the worlds worst remote control. As far as I know red zone won’t be blacked out on game pass, still trying to decide what to go for. I’ll probably get sky sports in on UPC and try and stream red zone or eagles games as I need them.

I’m not sure they can dictate the price of Sky. Sky sell their packages to UPC wholesale but obviously don’t want to be undercut by UPC so dictate a floor price that UPC sell at - which is pretty much the same as Sky. You just lack red button functionality but gain in other areas with free Setanta Ireland and free ESPN if you have a decent package.

No doubt UPC have to overcharge to make any profit on sky sports. Espn and espn America require a more comprehensive channel pack subscription than the basic, or can be paid for on their own. The separate espn subscription is actually the same cost as the channel upgrade that espn and America are thrown in ‘for free.’ UPC is cheap I suppose and the broadband is fast enough, I don’t play games or anything. I don’t understand how setanta is still in business they have little on, especially setanta Ireland.

just downloaded the game pass app on android now too, if ever I need it. looks a decent addition to the set up too. app is free, and works when you sign up for gamepass.
