The low cost aviation thread

And Ryan air pulling flights - and firing the head man at the restaurant hosting our reception … Still, they are dealing with Limerick here - she needs to up her game.

 She’ll never have faced a foe as formidable as a Limerick man looking to come into free money. You’ll fight the old doll tooth and nail for what is hers.

If so they could have been planning this for much longer. Or maybe there would have been greater disruption during the summer.

Reports in the papers this morning that they have lost 140 pilots to Norwegian Air already this year. I don’t know how that stacks up to their normal rate of staff turnover but it could be reason (combined with the holidays) as to why they find themselves having to cancel flights.

If only there was a trade union for the staff they would have ensured the proper leave reserve ratio and this would have been flagged months ago, and Ryanair wouldn’t have lost all those millions, the bad publicity alone could close the company, that’s why managing companies should NEVER be left to managers.
But unions = all bad.

Indeed - but airfares would be about 5 times what they actually are. Think Aer Lingus and their banditry in the 80’s …

Not at all. There’s competition there now that would and does keep prices low. Maybe a €5 per flight wouldn’t be too much extra to pay if it meant the flight wasn’t cancelled on a whim.

Mrs O’Sullivan is starting a pilots union in Ryanair now. She’s trying to flank you mousey.

She’s upped the ante here big time – she’s over in Spain now with a few of her fellow retirees around her and they have gone through the gears fairly rapidly… Over to you @ChocolateMice.

You need to get married in a registry stat.

Aer Lingus have a nice little sale on at the moment. Just picked up a couple of return flights to Barcelona in Feb for €160.

You’d need your head examined to be going to Barcelona.

She’s well insured mate.

O’Leary is going to push the staff towards all out strike.

His latest stunt is to tell cabin crew in the UK they have to take 6 weeks unpaid leave during the winter or else work out of a busier base in Europe but without any expenses for accomodation etc.

He ain’t no genius. It’s all spinning out of control. @nemesis was at the airport today for about 9 hours cos his Ryanair flight to London was delayed over and over again.

He’ll be out of that job a lot quicker than he realises.

I wouldn’t wish hanging around Dublin airport for nine hours on my worst enemy.

Previously the permanent staff wouldn’t want to rock the boat so never really got involved in any previous staff unrest. This time around he’s managed to upset all of them. He said the pilots job wasn’t that difficult and they only worked 18 hours a week. He also said that if they wouldn’t agree to swap leave they would just start cancelling it instead.

They’re rushing 100 new pilots through training now as well.
