The Mac and Treatystones Beer Thread

No. Is it on sale anywhere around Dublin yet?

Not sure, but I’d highly recommend it… Got locked on it at Christmas, great stuff… I think.

I’m no authority on craft beers, I generally prefer Czech or Belgian beers but I had a couple of bottles of King Puck Pale ale recently while I was in Kerry and it was lovely stuff, brewed in Killorglin obviously

I was in that Oslo pub in salthill a few weeks ago and I thoroughly liked it. There was an abundance of draught beer options including one of my favorites Erdinger Weiss. We also had grub there and there was nothing wrong with it. I remember thinking if I was living around there I wouldn’t come out of it. I was in there actually two days in a row and both days it was more or less barren save for a few non locals like myself. Any reason there were no locals in there? I suppose its very gimmicky alright. @KinvarasPassion @Ambrose_McNulty

Is that the place by Connolly station?

I had a bottle of that Smithwicks blonde there a while back and I thought it was terrible stuff.

Yeah. Well I sometimes have it if its on draught in a pub and the other choices are Heineken, Budweiser, carlsberg, bulmers etc or even that hop house shit. I find it way better than them. Sometimes I’m not bothered drinking Guinness. I find the Smithwicks pale ale awful garbage though.

It’s a fine pub but it’s not somewhere I’d be too often as salthill is wrong side of city. We brought a gang of yanks there a few months ago and they still talk about it… great selection of beer and the food is top notch.

Yeah that’s the place

That’s it alright.

Well it’s the best out of all those options if you’re giving Guinness a miss, I’d often do the same if I know the stout isn’t going to be very good. Hop house is shit alright

I’m pretty sure Aldi, Lidl and Dunnes are use the same Brewery to make their own brand craft beer. It’s Crafty Brewing in Lidl, something else in Aldi, Grafters in Dunnes and they also make that McGarggles shite.

I had two pints of Hugo’s Lager from @balbec yesterday. Was grand stuff.

Lidl don’t do chimay, way out of their league. The blue one is unreal though.

My favourite beers at the moment are the kinnegar beers. Pint bottles and they’re top top quality. The IPA and the rye ale are unreal.

A Donegal lad put me onto Kinnegar.

Yeah they are very very good

Lidl will do a deal with anyone if they get the stuff at the right price.

I guess they will do country-specific deals as well as European?

I went into Lidl again earlier. They have bottles of the superb Franziskaner Weissbier for sale at €1.99 a pop! I was tempted pick up the whole box of 24, but I settled on four. These are hard to find anywhere and I sincerely doubt anywhere would have them so cheap.

As an aside I can’t believe the value in there and that I haven’t been shopping there all along. I picked up a few cans of haddock at 55c a pop and a pack of six large pitta breads at 49c. Unreal. They got me in the door for the booze but now they have me.

I have never ever had an even vaguely palatable stout other than Guinness or, on occasion Murphys if local.

Salthill has lost all relevance since I left college, and for current students it’s probably nonexistent as the Warwick is closed.

Great work on the reflex footwork by the way. I caught my young lad’s head with my instep after he took a tumble. I had a frying pan full of sausages in my hand, so if I tried to catch him I’d have scalded both of us. Nobody saw my feat either.
