Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney will miss the visit of Aston Villa next month after being given a one-match ban for his red card at Fulham on Saturday.
The striker was sent off for two bookable offences during his sideās 2-0 defeat, and he punched the corner flag while leaving the pitch.
But referee Phil Dowd said he was not sworn at by the player and Rooney will face no extra sanction beyond the ban.
Aston Villa travel to Old Trafford for a Premier League fixture on 5 April.
An FA spokesman said: "We have clarified with Phil Dowd that there was no abuse from the player after he was dismissed.
āIn relation to the incident when he punched the corner flag, the referee did not see that and we have written to Wayne Rooney reminding him of his responsibilities.ā
Glad to see he didnt get anything more than 1 game.
On another note United being forced to play a league game on the 5th of April then playing on the 7th against Porto seems a bit unfair. No other club involved in the quarters has to do something similar.

I think that gameās being brought forward to the 4th, Shan.
I thought that would be the case but as its on Sky Sports at 4pm the Sunday I dont know. I havent seen any news on the utd site, bbc or the premier league site. Seeing as Vidic, Scholes and Rooney are out of the villa match anyway it wouldnt be the best team United could put on but still.
Manchester Unitedās decision to re-schedule their Premier League match with Aston Villa for Sunday April 5 has been interpreted as a sign that Sir Alex Ferguson has become so concerned by his sideās mini-slump in the league that he has cancelled plans to prioritize progress in the Champions League.
According to The Guardian, āWhen the match was originally chosen for live television United announced it would automatically revert to a Saturday kick-off if they were drawn to play in the Champions League.ā However, a statement released on Unitedās official website yesterday declared: āIt was previously thought, and advertised, that the Villa match would be brought forward to the Saturday if Unitedās Champions League tie fell on Tuesday. However, we can now confirm that the games will be played a little more than 48 hours apart.ā
By facing Villa on the Sunday, United will now have just 50 hours of recovery time before they face Porto in the first-leg of their Champions League quarter-final. It is the sort of fixture pile-up that Ferguson would normally be determined to avoid, and it is understood that his decision to snub Sky Sports following the recent 4-1 defeat to Liverpool was a form of protest against that match being played on the Saturday lunchtime after United had faced Inter Milan on the previous Wednesday night.
But The Guardian claims that, following back-to-back defeats, Ferguson has become so alarmed at Unitedās lead at the top of the table being drastically cut by Liverpool that āthe Scot has drastically altered his thinking. Ferguson publicly declared last month that the Champions League was his āpriorityā but he has now decided it is more important that those United players who will be away on international duty over the next week and a half have an extra day to prepare for the visit of Martin OāNeillās side.ā
Big decision if it was Fergusonās. He wonāt see the lads for the guts of two weeks and Villa have that time to get psyched up for it. And leaves us a bit winded for Porto. It scares me a bit. Having said that. A bit of time away might do the lads the world of good and weāll come back and hammer KIBās 12 menā¦hopefully

It was probbably a money decision. United would get half a million off Sky to show the match live on Sky Sports and United cant be turning down that kind of cash with the debts the club have.
1634: Unbelievable - Macheda has done it again after being on the pitch for just seconds. Carrickās low shot from outside the box hits him on the foot and diverts past the helpless Craig Cordon. Sunderland 1 Manchester United 2 and this is just astonishing.
