The Man Utd Thread

6-0 win against Newcastle after it being 0-0 at half time. That’s some hiding. I didn’t see any of it though.

Newcastle also cleared 5 shots off the line and Rooney should have scored a hatrick himself but for Given. Overall it was a good win but not lets get carried away as Newcastle were woeful. Rio Ferdinand scoring said it all.

Looked at the table earlier. Didn’t realise Chelsea were so close but they’re only 4 points off the lead. I reckon they’ll push Manchester United all the way now as Anelka should provide the cover for Drogba they lacked.

I was thinking that myself. I think despite that win Arsenal got at everton a few weeks back they have been looking sluggish as of late and the result today proved that. Arsenal will probbably finish 3rd. I think it will be tight though. I can see the Top 3 finishing all within 5 points of each other. Only worry is Ronaldo gets injured. Hes been unreal.

Fair play to Reading they really went for it today against United unlike some other teams who soak it up hoping to score from set plays(West Ham and Bolton )
Great open game. Really end to end stuff. United just about deserved it as Rooney and Ronaldo had shots that injured the Reading faithful in the 2nd half and the cross Tevez gave Rooney was sublime who diverted it past the goalie. 2nd was a typical counter when you looking for an equaliser and Ron ran 70 yards and easily dispatched the insurance goal. Going to Saudi Arabia to search for some oil and play a testimonial. Good chance to play the likes off Sheasey and Fletcher.

Ronaldo is a Tony Romo. I’m a legend.

This proves nothing.

Where is Fergies hand going there?

The testimonial kicks off at 5. United are getting 1 Million pounds to play it. I saw over the weekend the Premier League wants every team to play 1 game a season abroad like the Nfl and Nhl did to generate income. Its intresting but no doubt the smaller teams will be against it and who want to see Derby vs Wigan in England never mind in another country.

It’s the dirty commercial side of the game but every team needs cash and a few days travelling might seem like a holiday for the boys. As long as no-one is injured it’s cool.

United lost 3.2 but I sense it was a case of you win you die by the Saudis. Two of the dogiest penalties ever given. They missed the 2nd one after they had to retake it.

Did you see it/who played?

Saw it till about the 60th minute as I had to go out. He started with Tevez and Ronaldo up front who got the goals. Both went off at half time. Rooney, Park, Vidic and Hargreaves came on at half time. Carrick or Giggs didnt play. Slight knocks but should be ok for Sunday. Sami Al Jaber who they were honouring got two penalties given. Both times minimal contact but even Fergie had to laugh at the decision probbably as his life would have been under threat if he gave out.

United: Van der Sar (Kuszczak 30, Heaton 65); Simpson, Ferdinand (Vidic 46), O’Shea, Evra (Hargreaves 46); Eagles, Fletcher, Anderson (Welbeck 65), Nani; Ronaldo (Park 46), Tevez (Rooney 46)

Just read the young lad Danny Wellbeck had a peno in the last minute and blazed it over. Hmm. Its as close as a fixed game you are going to get as the 60 odd minutes I saw was laughable at times what was going on. The winner was an overhead kick.

I presume it was in the ‘game contract’ that players like Tevez, Rooney and Ronaldo all had to play a minimum of 45 minutes each. It’s a strange enough one to have the game in the middle of an important phase of the season. It’s FA Cup this weekend and I don’t think they’d have entertained playing the game if it was a league game coming up on Sat/Sun. But as you say, the corporate world is part of football now. Celtic actually played a friendly in Japan in between the 1st and 2nd league games of last season to get a million in the pocket too.

A workman like performance today. United took advantage of the Spurs mistakes at the back. Dawson clearly handled it and had to go and Ronaldo puts the peno away.
Spurs with a little composure could have won it.

As things stand there is only 6 top flight teams in the last 16. The big 4 and Boro and Pompey. I can see another team like Millwalll getting to the final if the draw is favourable. United have drawn Premiership opposition in the last 10 draws for the cup.

I have to correct you there Shan - not all of the big 4 are still in the cup as Oldham knocked Everton out in the last round. Liverpool, 6th in the league, are the other top flight team already guaranteed their place in the 5th round. I saw the goals earlier - 2 terrible fook ups by Dawson.

Anyone see Sheffield United’s first goal there against Manchester City? The City fans let off a load of blue and white balloons at the start. As United attacked down the left all the balloons were still in and around the 6-yard box and when some lad cut it back Michael Ball was unable to identify the ball in the sea of balloons and basically stepped over the ball to allow some other fook to tap it in. Ridiculous.

The Big 4 in my view are the teams that finished 1st-4th last season. But I can see where you are coming from. I can also point out that United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are the last 4 different teams to hold the cup so in this comp they should be regarded as the big 4.

Micheal Ball what a coont. Hate him for what he did to Ronaldo last season.
City get one back. Its 51 years since no replays in the 4th round. Typical the last game is going to ruin it like a good accum.

United v spurs was a super game. Two sides who looked pretty well matched. United were always the stronger but spurs looked more than capable of nicking goals and should have got at least another one from their chances. Dawson’s an idiot, he looked pretty good too, until his handball. Rooney was immense. Great to see scholes back. Hargreaves played well and it says so much about Ronaldo that I thought he wasn’t great but still got two goals. I’d like to see Nani push Giggs a little harder for his place. Great win all told.

very impressed with hargreaves yesterday playing that dirty thankless role of being an annoying coont to the opposition and getting stuck in breaking up attacks and winning the ball back (there may be a more technical description of the role). if he can stay fit he’ll be a quality asset for the run in although he still as an awful lot to do to justify his fee.

european credentials will be severely tested with any injury to the 3 front players considering there is no back up (not even counting saha cos he’s a complete waste of space. looking forward to newcastle/middlesborough paying 15m for him in the summer though).
